SOURCE: ford f150 5.8l chokes bad when starting cold

suspect the idle air control valve. remove and clean but this doesnt always help even if it is bad, but first
clean throttle body by plate. It could be restricted. Fords have a sticker that say do not clean, Its bull. If there is a build up around the plate and on the plate it needs to come off. Disconnect the battery while cleaning, This will reset fuel stradagy so it idles better on startup. A used toothbrush works good for cleaning

71 c10 not staying charged... new battery alternator fuses good and new voltage regulator

Maybe it wasn't running long enough to charge up the battery?
Stop trying to jump it, when you are having problems with it dying, take the battery off and have it charged. And/or buy a $20 voltmeter to see what the battery shows. If it says less than 12 volts, it is discharged, and needs charging. A good battery that is not run down should have at least 12.5 volts. A new battery that is charged should have very close to 13 volts, maybe 12.8 volts.
When you have the truck running, check the alternator for charging. You put the voltmeter right on the battery and check it again. This time, with truck running, battery should show at least 13.5 volts. That shows the alternator is working. A good alternator will put out about 13 or 14 volts-the regulator will keep it from going any higher to prevent problems, like a melting battery or electrical parts burning out.
I would say get the charging system working right, then address the problem of dying at stop lights. That could be a carburetor problem, if the alternator is working.

2001 ford explorer sport wont charge

I'm not sure if you have all of the info you need to go forward with this.
The battery may be rated for 800 amps but could have less than 12 volts if the alternator is not charging it.
It could have a dead cell which would keep it from holding a charge.
You would need to check the charge of the battery with a volt meter, then see if the alternator is charging at 14 volts when the engine is running. The battery should be at least 12 volts with the engine off.
The problem could be in the wiring from the key switch or dash gauges back to the alternator.

Alternator Problems, help!

First snug up belt to alternator. With engine running check voltage at battery...should be 13-14 volts. If not check connections...both battery connections, ground wires etc. Is battery good? Sounds like a short though.

Have replaced the alternator and new battery in my 1999 Ford Tarus, worked great for two months. Now back to the same problem. Battery will not hold a charge more than six hours

You'll have to put a volmeter on the battery when the engine is running. The voltmeter should read between 14 and 14.5 volts. If not the alternator is not charging. Could be a defective alternator or a wiring problem.

Having charging problems on 91 ford exploer keeps killing new battery tested altornator and they said it was good was wondering when you hook volt meter is supose to read and thank you inadvance

When your engine is running, you should have around 14.2-14.5 volts using a voltmeter across the + and - terminals on the battery. If it is around 12, you have a bad alternator, blown alternator fuse, or alternator wiring fault.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE LOW VOLTAGE. PUT A VOLTMETER ON THE BATTERY WHILE TURNING THE KEY IN THE START POSITION. IF THE VOLTAGE DROPS BELOW 8 VOLTS, THAT IS TOO LOW. BATTERY NEEDS TO BE CHARGED OR REPLACED & TERMINALS CLEANED. IF IT STARTS CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM. MOTOR RUNNING, VOLTAGE AT THE BATTERY SHOULD READ 13.90 TO 14.90. IF IT IS TOO LOW GET THE ALTERNATOR TESTED.

A 76, huh, let's see, I don't know if that had the regulator in there or not. It sounds like the alt died, but maybe not. It won't run without the alt. And will only last about 20 mins on a full battery. I would take the alt off and get it back to the store to have it checked. That would be the quickest way to tell, just because it is new doesn't mean it is good. Don't keep on killing the battery, it can only handle so many drains. Hope this helps.

Battery keep going dead, has new battery

Have you checked to see if the alternator is charging ? Run a volt meter on the battery with the engine running, have to have more than 14 volts. If 13 or less, then replace the alt.

Are you leaving something plugged into the Cigarette lighter by chance as that will drain it even if nothing's charging.

You may have a faulty ground somewhere, but that will be really hard to trace as you would have to test each wire...
