Question about 1999 Chrysler LHS

Air conditioning pump is frozen

When the air is turned on the belt burns. It appears to have coolant
in the condensor unit. It free-wheels when turned off. Could it be the
engine cooling fan module? or maybe it's just worn out? Would it be a good idea to buy a recharging kit and try that? Thanks.

I'm afraid your pump is seized up, and needs to be replaced.

Power Steering out on 2003 GMC Yukon


Possible that the PUMP is not active or working to the desired level . It can also be due to air within the hydraulic system and will require a reset on the unit.
Make sure that the belt is not slipping on the pulley .

Which cooling fan is the primary on a 99 jeep grand cherokee ???


The main cooling fan on this 1999 jeep cherokee, the main fan all depends.

These jeeps come with diffrent fan set ups. Here are a few, the first may be a fan driven off the motor by a fan belt and a another fan which is electric. the primary fan used for cooling is the fan that runs off the engine with a belt. the other electric fan is more the air conditioning system, this fan is used for cooling the condensor mainly. the engine driven fan is for the cooling system.


Another system fan set-up on these jeeps would be the motor driven fan by belt with another electric fan in front off it, the diffrence between the first and this one is that the first fan system is side by side and this one is set-up one in front of the other but the concept is the same, the fan driven by the engine is mainly for the cooling of the engine coolant and the electric fan is for air conditioning cooling.

In both set-ups the electric fans also help the cooling system but are mainly used for the help in cooling when the a/c is turnned on, the a/c condensor builds up heat the same as the radiator does, one fan is unable to cool both the radiator and the condensor, this is why some cars have two fans.

1. Viscous coupling removal (lock the viscous coupling).

2. Lock the ancillary drive belt tensioner.

4. Remove the coolant pump drive belt.
5. Remove the ancillary drive belt.
6. Release the A/C tensioner if vehicle is equipped with A/C (Air Conditioning).
7. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt.

Sounds like the ac compressor locked up and the belt snapped from rubbing on it. Once the belt snaps, the water pump stops and the engine overhears.

When I start my car it squeals really loud and smells like a vaccuum belt is burning. it also overheats while sitting still unless the air conditioner is on and now won't pass emissions. what could be...


Your squeal sounds like you have a pulley frozen, or sticking, that the belt can't turn, and it will burn. You need to determine which pulley or idler pulley it is.
The cooling problem may be related (water pump) , or just a failing fan switch, or fan. See if you have two, as some vehicles have one, and a second for air conditioning.

can't necessarliy automatically blame the water pump, check entire cooling system related components , check air flow through radiator and condensor, often overlooked and plugged with bugs and road debris, check all hoses for condition especially for a collasped bottom hose due to your opening system to R&R thermostat... you may have to bleed air from your system ... check coolant condition for specific gravity.. clogged internally radiator, check flow with cap off engine cold pressure relieved watch flow to see when thermostat is opening... should have increased contant flow. check belts for proper tension and condition.

Air conditioner belt is about to break, DOES THE VEHICLE HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONER CLUTCH THAT MAY BE FROZEN


If your clutch was frozen the belt would be making a loud squalling noise, the belt would burn up shortly. Start your engine, turn on air conditioning, then open the hood, and do an eyeball inspection of the belt, see if it is moving around the pulleys. If it is you only have a worn belt.
