I would also add I am not very good with cars! I know enough basics to get by but hopeless with anything else so please try to keep it simple enough for a dummy to understand!

Certainly sounds like a fuse/fuses very unlikely multiple systems would fail together but if they are grouped under the same fuse/fuses then the chances are that's the problem.
very easy look at the fuse section of your owners manual to identify the fuse/fuses
pull out the fuses and replace with new ones of the same rating
rating is in owners manual and on the fuse itself.
If it works then you know that's the problem.
ps if it doesn't have your battery checked as low charge can cause electrical glitches.

Suddenly the power steering went out.there is no noise at all

Power steering systems are usually either electric or hydraulic, is there a puddle of oily stuff under the car or signs of it around the engine bay? Look for a cap under the bonnet (hood) with a steering wheel symbol on and check the fluid level, if topping it up fixes it then check carefully for leaks. If you can't find either of these check for a blown fuse or loose conection.

My wipers stopped working on my mark 5 golf

Hello,

First, check the fuse under your steering and the one in your bonnet, check for the fuse controlling the wipe, see it the fuse has cut or not.

Second, there is a wipe engine/controller, it might have gone defective. So if its not from the fuse, then its from the wiper engine/controller. In this case, you need the help of an expert.

Good luck.

Half the light is out on the information console in my 2006 Toyota 4runner. Can I fix that?

Blown bulbs , easy!.
Remove the shroud under the steering column , ( the one where the fuse box and bonnet release is situated)
This will give you access to the bottom screws of the binacle around the speedo ( other screws up from underneath above the speedo)
Once binacle removed you will see the screws holding the speedo in, remove them and ( with the steering tilted fully down) remove the speedo head, there should be 3 or 4 electrical plugs in the back of the speedo ( don't worry they only fit one way and can't be muddled up )
In the back of the speedo are twist clips retaining the bulbs, remove and replace blown bulbs.
Reverse procedure to reinstall speedo.
A magnetic phillips head screwdriver is handy to get the screws back in without loosing them into the back of the dashboard.

ok if its a cable driven speedo then the cable has snapped or the speedo drive that goes into the gearbox is gone ,,also if its electric speedo then id go with the electric speedo in the gearbox ,,,a ten mil nut holds it in and it goes straight down into the gearbox,,youl see it from under the bonnet ,,

Lossed power steering while driving

sounds like your relay under the bonnet has gone im fraid, not too hard to change. if this is not the cause then the problem might be a little more difficult to sort out as this will prob be the power steering motor and is a bit of a swine to change.
