Question about 2002 Pontiac Montana
Hi..The door chime won't stop after you take out the key and open the door, in fact it chimes faster. It does stop when you close the door. I also have no rear lights & the auto lights on stopped working. Any ideas?

WD 40 or CRC WHITE LITHIUM GREASE SPRAY in each latch for the truck/car and open and close doors. Repeat and this should solve it.

SOURCE: passenger door ajar
it sounds like a bad door switch, does the dome light stay on also? if so, it is a bad door switch.it is also possable the switch is adjustable and you can try each of them individualy by pushing in the tab in the door jam that looks like a "turkey timer" (but it is black)..good luck, marty

I had the same problem as this...
When you open or close your door there is lever that sits just below the the door latch that is attached to the frame of your car by a single screw.
It is a black plastic L shaped bit of plastics that slides on its own guide. It has obviously started to malfunction over time.
To double check this:
Turn the car lights on
Open your door
Locate the black L shaped plastic level.
Wriggle it around sliding back and forth - if it starts to work when you are applying pressure onto it it looks like it has broken.
Go to your local wreckers and ask them for a replacement part (it cost me $2.00 AUD to get mine)
To take the part off all you need to do is push the level back as far as it will go and you will see a phillips heads screw holding it in place.
Undo the screw and detach the part (there will be a wire attached to the back of the metal guide)
Unplug the wire and throw the part into the bin.
Attach the wire to the back of the new part and screw the new one into place.
All should be working fine now.

Check the radio fuse. As unusual as it seems, GM has started having the radio (even though not turned on) generate the chimes and turn signal sounds. If the radio fails, all the chimes fail too.
This applies to other vehicles besides the HHR. My 2003 Silverado had the door chimes fade down so I could barely hear them. The fix was to replace the radio (under warranty, fortunately...).
