Upgrade of headlight bulb for more road light

Maybe it is my old eyes but is there a newer bulb that I can use to upgrade my headlight bulb. I do not like the bright bluest? light of a few cars on the road but do not know the type of bulb they use. Standard lights are not very good in low and high beam.

You can use higher wattage globes but you can over heat and damage your reflectors, the other option is HID globes, they use lower amperages but are best fitted by an auto electricion

SOURCE: headlight Problem - 1992 Plymouth Voyager

check and see if the dimmer switch is working, it's most likely stuck. it might also be the headlight relay.

SOURCE: car won't start, good battery, headlights are bright windows oper

If you're hearing a click at the starter, then a fuse is most likely not the cause of your problem. If this is the case, you may be looking at a starter replacement or perhaps a starter rebuild at your local auto electric shop. Another thing you may want to check is while the engine is in "crank mode" (you'll need someone in the car turning the key of course), check voltage at the B+ (red battery cable) at the starter. If you see it rise to 12+ Volts at crank, the starter needs to be replaced. If not, check voltage again in "crank mode" at the terminal going to the starter solenoid. It will be a smaller-gauge wire. If you see voltage here as well, it just again proved out the starter to be at fault. If there is no voltage there at the solenoid, consider checking and/or replacing the starter relay.

I hope this helps! :)

How to fix low beam headlights won't come on---hi beams work ok?

Kenneth, you need to give more details on what kind of vehicle, year, make, style and so forth so we can attempt to make a judgment on this.

Well did you try the solution?

Your headlights are an essential safety system for nighttime driving & visibility. If your headlights are not working, or are not aimed properly, you might not be able to see the road clearly.

Here are some suggestions on how to troubleshoot various kinds of headlight problems:

Problem: One headlight does not work

This usually means one of the headlight bulbs has burned out. Bulbs have a limited life that depends on the number of hours of use, and how much vibration they have been subjected to over time. The thin tungsten filament inside an incandescent headlight bulb will eventually burn out. The more nighttime driving you do, the sooner one or both headlights will fail. A typical automotive incandescent headlamp (halogen or regular) has a service life that may range from 600 to as much as 2000 hours of use. For the average motorist who drives 12,000 to 15,000 miles a year, that means replacing a headlight maybe every five or six years depending on how often the headlights are used. Driving on rough roads may cut that life short by causing the delicate filament inside the bulb to fail prematurely.

The Fix: Replace the burned out bulb.

But before you do that, inspect the electrical connector on the back of the headlight carefully for damage, and see that it is not corroded or loose.

The headlight bulbs on most vehicles today are changed from the back of the headlight housing. The housing is a sealed plastic shell with the bulb and socket mounted on the back. The socket that holds the bulb usually twist-locks into the housing. Rotating it counterclockwise about ¼ turn will unlock the tabs and allow you to pull the bulb and socket out of the housing. Access on some vehicles is easy, but on others you may have to remove other components that are in the way, or even remove the housing mounting bolts and remove the housing before you can change the bulb. See your owners manual or the vehicle service literature for detailed instructions on how to replace a headlight bulb.

Once the socket has been removed from the headlight housing, you can pull the old bulb out of the socket and replace it with a new one (must be the same size and style as the original bulb).

Aftermarket replacement bulbs with slightly higher wattage ratings and/or tinting are available to upgrade headlight performance and improve nighttime and bad weather visibility.
best regards,

daid

I ask you did you try the solution posted twice then?

How to change a headlight bulb on a 1996 Chrysler Concorde. Driver side and passenger side.

Assuming you can't find access to the headlights, like a lot of newer cars, then try this:
If you don't have access to the lights under the hood. Look around the headlights outside. There must be a screw on or under the headlight mount. maybe under the bumper.

But if you have access to the bulbs now, then use gloves to replace the bulbs if they are the newer hot bulbs. A finger print on those bulbs can cause it to explode.
Some bulbs twist and turn out, others just pull out straight.
Hope this helps.

How to replace Head light & running light switch

remove the 4 bolts that hold the headlight assembly into the chassis frame.
For example, to remove the left front headlight;
It takes a 9006 low beam bulb, OEM is 51 watts If you buy a halogen upgrade, it will be a 55 watt bulb I don't know if you can put a super xenon bulb in there, it may harm the harness, I don't know so don't rely on me for that...
Lift the hood Get a socket head wrench and some SAE (standard) sockets. Find the socket that fits the bolt head just above the headlight. I think it is a 3/8's or slightly larger.
There are 4 bolts screwed through the frame into the top of the headlamp assembly. The bolts on each end of the headlight are longer and go all the way through the assembly to align it properly.
Lay each bolt out, on the ground in the order you removed them. The middle two bolts are short, maybe 1 " and the ends are closer to 3.5" long.
Once the bolts are out, slide the headlight assembly forward. There are two bulbs, a high and low beam. The low beam bulb is to the outside of the car, or drivers side on the left, farthest to the passenger side on the right.
Most of the time the low beam will burn out since it's used 90% of the time.
The bulb has a right angle fitting with a wiring harness attached. With your hand or a channel lock pair of pliers, gradually rotate the light bulb base counter clockwise until the unit is loose in the socket holder.
Disconnect the bulb from the wiring harness and replace it with the new bulb.
Reverse the process and turn on the headlights to check you have the bulb harness properly attached before finishing up the reassembly of the 4 bolts.
Your bulb alignment with the ground should not have changed from this work. Have fun...not difficult. Takes about 10 minutes per bulb.

Hi I have a 2009 Saturn Outlook and I HATE to drive at night the headlights ****!! can I replace them to be stronger??

Hi, I have a 2009 Saturn Outlook and have the same problem. Part of the problem is that they have projector headlamps that do a great job of directing the light to the road but restrict a lot of light output. The solution is to upgrade to "HID" lighting. These cars come with the option from the factory but this can be very costly. I replaced my bulbs with aftermarket HID lights and I can see great! It is like driving during the daytime. I have tried many different brands of aftermarket hid's and have found this company to be the best for the money. Here is the website. www.ddmtuning.com , click on the "hid kits" tab, then on DDM Slim Ballast HID Kit 35W or 55W. Once on this page, go to the right of the page and choose the 55watt H11 bulbs, these are the ones that will fit the outlook. then choose your color, i chose 6000k becuase they are a nice crisp white and give off the most light. the higher the temperature the more blue or purple they will look. **make sure you also order the upgraded harness for the lights, GM uses such small wiring for the headlights now that you may have problems with only one light turning on without this kit. if you call them, they are very helpful and can help you with the whole process. hope this helps, this all costs under $100 compared to over a $1000 from the dealer.

Left front low beam headlight not getting any voltage. Fuse good, bulb is new. Both old and new bulbs have continuity.

I don`t know the year ,but the newer models have separate head light relays. There is one for the left, and one for the right. The relays are in with the relay bos, maybe under the hood, the relay would be the only reason, except for wire harness problem.

Replace the headlight assembly. Aftermarket headlight assemblies sell for about $60 to $70. Upgrade your bulbs to brighter, whiter lamps to increase visibility.
