Will 20w50 solve cold start noise in hot cimate? Tercel 1998

Dear supporter, I have a 1998 toyota tercel with the 4efe engine. My climate is hot South America, generally 30 degrees celsius. I have some cold start noise. Is it wise to use 20w50? Many thanks. Regards, Billey

Ok Thundergog. I found that after doing a ECM reset, the noise is a lot less, but after some days it louder and stays at a certain level. Could it be a mixture problem?

  • Anonymous May 22, 2009

The noise comes from the top of the engine, it sounds like a diesel engine for 1 or two minutes.

Operating in warm/hot climates, 20/50 won't hurt anything, but may not correct the problem either. If there is a mechanical problem inside a lifter, the noise will likely continue. Sometimes going in another direction, such as adding Marvel oil to the engine can be helpful if there is any gunk buildup inside the hydraulic part of the lifter, it will help clean it out. If the noise is limited to cold startup its not critical yet, but if it gets worse at any point, you will need to change the bad part.

OK...back up a bit...from what you wrote, I thought you had cold start lifter noise. Where does the noise come from?

  • Richard Scordino May 22, 2009

Sounds like lifter noise to me...common problem...Try the marvel oil thing I said before...I've had good results with that and it does nothing bad to engine even if it dosen't fix it. It won't work immediately...took a long time for gunk to form, it won't go away in ten minutes.
Some electronic controls tick also which is why I asked what was ticking...if inside the valve cover, it's lifters.

Hi, the heater of my 2000 mitsi galant says 30 degrees but still cold. sometimes normal but sometimes 30 degrees is too cold and when i turn dial to 30.5 then too hot.

Is the engine getting up to temperature?
If so, then the issue is with the interior heater system.

Check or change the interior thermistor.
If this doesn't help, then replace the climate control computer/control box.

Mhow much oil does the audi a4 tiptronic gearbox take 1998

How to check & change oil in automatic transmission on a 1998 Audi A4

At the bottom of the automatic gearbox (tiptronic) you will find 2 threaded plugs on below surface. First (in front of the car) is for emptying, and second is for filling up. Tightening torque is 24 Nm.

tdisline_465.jpg
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checking:
1. Requirements for check:
1.1. Vehicle standing on level surface.
1.2. Transmission must not be in fail-safe mode.
1.3. Shift lever in "P" position, parking brake applied.
1.4. Engine idling.
1.5. Air Conditioner and heater OFF.
1.6. ATF temperature must not exceed 104 Fahrenheit degree (40 Celsius degree) at start of test.
1.7. Only ATF with designation ESSO LT 71 141 may be used. Do not use any lubricant additives.
1.8. Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF - part number: G 052 162 A2 (1 liter wrapping)
1.9. An ATF level check when transmission oil temperature is too low results in overfilling, when too high results in underfilling.
2. CAUTION: Too much or too little ATF will affect the operation of the transmission. The ATF level must be checked at regular intervals.
3. The oil level is correct if a slight amount of oil runs out when ATF temperature is between 86 Fahrenheit degree (30 Celsius degree) and 113 F deg (45 C deg) (caused by increase of oil level when heated). For warmer climates, 122 F deg (50 C deg).
4. Hang filled ATF reservoir VAG 1924 as high as possible.
5. Shift lever in "P" position, engine running at idle.
6. Place oil drip pan under transmission oil pan.
7. Remove ATF filler plug (at the bottom of the automatic gearbox you will find 2 threaded plugs on below surface. First (in front of the car) is for emptying, and second is for filling up.
8. With ATF temperature between 86 Fahrenheit degree (30 Celsius degree) and 113 F deg (45 C deg), for warmer climates, 122 F deg (50 C deg), a slight amount of oil will flow from filler hole when ATF level is correct.
9. If necessary drain or top off ATF to attain correct oil level. Top ATF with filler hook from VAG 1924 ATF reservoir. Insert VAG 1924 (tool) ATF reservoir filler hook into filler hole and top off until a slight amount of oil flows from filler hole.
NOTE: Fit filler hook into one of the oil deflector cap slots placed on the filler opening.
CAUTION: Do not press filler hook upward or oil deflector cap can be pushed off.
10. Reinstall ATF filler plug. Tightening torque is 24 Nm.

I have a 2000 pontiac grand prix with a digital climate control system. The heat quit working, it doesn't blow out any heat. Now that it is warm outside the air stopped blowing out any air. The digital temperature on the climate control is not correct. When it states that it is below 30 degrees on the ext and it is warm outside the air wont be cold. Once it starts going above 30 degrees the air gets colder. Today the blower stop working all together. Was told it maybe the climate control unit was bad. You can hear the door opening/shutting when you switch the temp from cold to hot. But there was no heat blowing out whatsoever in the winter time. Could you please give me your opinion on whether or not it is the climate control unit or something else?

Can i put 10W30 oil in my 2002 corolla

Depending on your climate. 5W30 is recommended for cold winters. 10W30 will do in a warmer climate. Both oils have the same viscosity when the engine is up to running temperature - that's what the number 30 refers to. The difference is when the engine is cold, the 5W30 is thinner and will flow and lubricate better. The numbers 5 and 10 refer to the viscosity at 0 degrees C.

Be sure to change the filter every time you change the oil. Check the oil level frequently.

Need to found which oil I use for my corolla 2006 1800cc shell I use (5w-20 or 5w-30)

depends on climate,5w 30 if its warmer and 5w 20 if its cooler eg;tops 25 degrees celcius,if it gets hotter the 30 means thicker when hot and the 25 is thinner ....as older engines use 10w 50 ,10 being the thinnest it willget to,thicker is a little better if youre not in a minimum 2,to 5 deg in the morn climate

1998 Tercel Cold heat to the windshield. Lukewarm out front vent.

Hey,

I just replaced my thermostat in my car due to the same problem. Except mine was a 92. I figured I'd start with the thermostat and antifreeze. Then the heating core. Now I have heat.

But yet I still have no heat on the windshield.
