Oil pressure guage only works part of the time, need to know where the sensor is located

The engine starts and runs but my oil guage shows no oil pressure, I let it sit for about a month, then when I started it the guage was working, but only for a short time.

that's kinda what I thought, do you know where it is located, I think it is located where a line goes into the oil thing. I'm just a girl that grew up with a mechanic for a dad. That's why I dont know that name.

should be right near the oil filter on that car. sometimes though they put it into the side of the block in the oil gallery should have two wires from it.

Oil pressure light on after rebuild on the engine ...why?

Never start a new built engine without turning it over a while to build oil pressure first. Then if there is no oil pressure you either have a bad pump, gauge, or possibly a clogged filter.

I have a 2002 jeep Cherokee oil gauge show max out when i start the Eng

When oil is cold, pressure will read high, but as it warms up pressure indicator should drop to normal. Are you using the correct weight oil for your weather conditions? Running straight 30 weight, or say 20w50 could cause this issue.

Replaced oil sensor light still comes on

MAY---May-be you really have low oil pressure.. The way this sensor works is when you turn off the engine it closes to ground.. and when you start the engine.. the oil pressure opens it and the light goes out.. SO.. if the wire going to it is grounded out somewhere between the sensor and the dash board the light will stay on.. 3 choices.. 1. bad sensor (even though you replaced it) 2. wire is shorted to ground.. remove wire from sensor while engine is running.. light should go out. 3. you actually have really low oil presure. next.. after you have exuasted #1-2. you can remove sensor and install a real oil pressure guage and see what the pressure really is.. If you have very low or no oil pressure..1. Check oil level.(probably should have done this first) 2.pull oil pan and replace oil pump.. while you are there check a main bearing and a rod bearing for wear.. worn out bearings will cause low oil pressure. If you have good oil pressure install the pressure guage permanetly and forget about light.

No oil pressure

It could be anything from a faulty oil pressure gauge, to a mechanic's trick to keep you from finding out the engine is soon to expire. They sometimes unplug the gauge on purpose. Fords can run a little low on oil for a while without signs or problems. I'd start by checking your oil. If it is not low on oil, there is a sensor on the engine block you might want to replace, It should have a wire hooked to it. That is your sensor. If this doesn't work, go to the gauge itself.

Oil pressure low stop engine and check guage

Fist check oil level, the sensor is a pressure switch worked by oil pressure, hopefully the sensor has gone faulty. The oil pressure needs checking, if the oil pump or relief valve has gone faulty, the engine is being starved of lubrication and is causing internal damage. It is advisable NOT to run the engine till the pressure has been checked. (hope it's the sensor)
