Make sure you have the radio unlock code for your Civic, if equipped
with the anti-theft radio. Disconnect your negative battery cable and gather
the tools required for the procedure. Make sure your workplace is safe and
Remove the drive belt to better access the alternator. Remove the 4P
connector from the alternator, and then remove the battery wiring module.
Use your socket wrench to remove the alternator bolts, and then slip the
alternator away from its mount.
Mount the new alternator in its place. Use the torque wrench to tighten
the bolts to 33 ft.-lbs. This is the specific rating for the Honda Civic, do
not disregard this. Not properly tightening the bolts could cause problems.
Attach the 4P connection and the battery wiring module. Replace the
drive belt and reconnect the negative battery cable.
Make sure your radio and air conditioning are turned off, and then crank
the engine. Rev the engine to 3,000 RPM with the vehicle in park. Hold it in
this position under you hear the radiator fan turn on.
Take your foot off the accelerator and let the engine idle for five
minutes. Set your clock and use your code to unlock your radio.
