Hi,this is just bad wiring. i recommend replacing all wiring harnesses in the dash and, inspect the fuse block wire connectors as well for worn tips and contacts.

Driving along lights dimmed, instrument panel died, loss of power then engine cut out & wouldn't start. Starts with a jump but when i turn key to heat glow plug, instrument panel goes mad

I assume there's a problem with alternator. Check the grounding to engine, check continuity of a positive wire between alternator and battery. the energizing voltage should be checked as well. Might be the bad connection between battery and vehicle body grounding. Diesel cars are sensitive even in a little loss of connection and rust in the connection points.

Engine cutting out

Carburettor checkup and Tuning is necessary. Engine cuts in slow speed, so also check the accelerator wire.

2004 Dodge Durango: Left turn signal blinks fast

Check the bulb socket for a burnt or a shorted condition. Remove bulb and try another bulb, if it does it again then you have a short in the socket or wiring to bulb. Turn on the 4 way flashers and see what it will do. If it continues then look for any burnt wire connector or wireing to bulb. Check the wiring behind the light for any metal that has cut into the wiring insulation. Hope this will help you.

Blinking lights

Check the wiring harness for your instrument panel. You may have a loose connection or a loose ground.

Instrument panel and ac will blink off randomly while driving or when you crank the car the these come on after a delay period

we checked.....the fuses, all of the wires from the instrument panel, and the grounds from the cluster connection to the fuses and all seemed to be normal. We couldn't find the main master ground, but all of the wires from the cluster seemed to be grounded correctly. We think the problem has to be the custer going bad. it has 126000 miles on the instrument panel. We have another ordered, but only because that is the last resort to fixing the problem. I know it is a weird temp fix, but my husband found a mild tap on top seems to jolt it just enough to make it start working again for a short while until the new cluster arrives.

I had the same problem. Abs light would come on and I would lose all dash instruments. Hit a bump on the road and abs light would go off and dash would come back on. What I did to fix problem, lol I slaped the dash just to the right of instrument panel and it all came back to life. There seems to be a short there, and I slaped it back 3 times in a week and now for the last month it has stayed on.

Hi there,

When you say you 'lose instrument panel', does that mean instrument panel lighting or the gauges go dead?

When you flip off the headlights, does the instrument panel come back? If it does, forget the fuse box.

If it's the instrument lighting, I'd be looking at headlight switch itself. In Safari's, the headlight switch and panel dimmer switch reside in one assembly. Coincidence? I think not.

I recommend replacing the switch. You can find one at a salvage yard for $5.00.

When you do the replacement, inspect the plugs and wiring attached to the old one for anything suspicious (loose wires, frayed insulation, bare wire, charred wire, etc.)

Let me know how it turns out.
Good luck,

If this works out for you, please take a sec and rate my solution.

Thanks
Mike
