SOURCE: engine surges at idle in gear

It sounds like you have a intake leak or vac leak . The codes to lean are caused by air that is getting in your engine that is not being measured by the computers sensors

SOURCE: truck has surging idle when cold scanner says bank

I found this on two 1999 F150 trucks with 5.4L. One was mine. There is a vacuum hose on the back passenger side of the engine that is about the size and length of your thumb. With age, this hose will collapse and then develop a vacuum leak. It can be pretty load if leaking.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Ford Escape xlt 4wd 6cyl. Loss of

The first thing i would do is have the computer scanned for codes the codes will help by telling you where the problem is, you may need to do some testing but the codes will point you in the right direction, the computers are always testing and watching all componets, when the computer sees a problem it will turn check engine light on and store a code with the problem it found, next thing a would check is the fuel preasure, the engine may not be getting the correct preasure and in turn no power.almost all autopart stores will scan the codes for free and if you get the codes i will help you further, hope this helps.

A lean bank 1o2 could be a vacuum leak. The intake gaskets on these motors are a common problem. They get dry and brittle causing leak.usually more noticeable when cold, when the engine warms up gaskets swell and seal.also check all vacuum hoses to p.c.v and various other vacuum lines for cracks or being colla

97 toyota surges at an idle

(which engine. ?????)_
as always check all fuses. and scan the ECU for DTCs. first.
there is no need to fix OBD2 cars like 1980 cars (hard rows to hoe)
it can be 2 problems this......
lets fix the easy one first. idle. (and hope for moving issues to fix for free) it idle car is parked, so is 100% safe tests. (not moving)

so it surges at idle.
1: hot or cold or both.?
2: low extreme RPM and high at idle.

400 to 800 RPM? surge.
1000 to 2000. what? numbers tell the tale.

first off, idle is the last thing to work right on any engine.

there are many ways to find what is wrong.
fix idle surge way.
i make sure that the engine holds closed LOOP status.
hot idle, if not , i fix that first.
keep in mind if not in closes loop and lean
all lean engine surge and guess what the ISC will add to the surge
because idle is way too slow, so the ECU open the ISC wider
and wider and its still too slow, so the ECU resets the ISC
this cause a worst hunt (surge)
the ECU adjust spark time and the ISC to get 800 rpm. (spec. look up yours)
so say , i see closed loop failed, OBD2 scan page 1
i look at the O2 sensor an its stuck lean.
if stuck lean and it really is (o2 bad?) then its lean and it will surge
1: i find 02 sensor bad, (only effects idle and light steady cruise)
2: i find fuel pressure at 15PSI , hopeless low .
3: i find all injectors clogged. and lean.
4: with MAF EFI, ( i find maf reading too low, (dirty) causing lean.
5: if MAP car, i find the MAP stuck hard high vacuum causing lean.
not knowing what engine you have or the idle hot surge range,
i can not go farther.

the driving bog tells me,
1: scan the ecu ,get DTCs; do that first.
2: clean MAF if car has one, ask how..
3: check fuel pressure.

my guess is engine is lean. and starving for fuel all the time.
cept WOT.

MAF cars starve for fuel if there are any vacuum leaks.
MAP cars do opposite, they race fast with 100% full power.
MAF is air density EFI
MAP is speed density EFI.
apples and oranges diffr. so what engine.

Pontiac Aztek 2001 - 3.4l (non-GT); Codes: P0135, P0141, P0420 all O2 + Converter. Ideas on problem?

P0135 bank 1 sensor 1 open or short in wires, bad connections, bad sensor ,or bad ecm. P0141 bank 1 sensor 2 same diag as P0135. P0420 cat below threshold open or short, or faulty Ho2s may have several problems. start with sensors circuit if good change sensors if not trace to ecm if reading not right replace ecm if all good replace sensors clear codes retest drive two drive cycles for cat to clear tests. then with no dtcs present test fuel pressure , injectors, then ignition system ,timing valves ,map, maf sensors, throttle sensor, crank sensor cam sensor, compression.

What causes the computer to read bank 1 to lean, bank 2 to lean. It also idles rough and will stall out while stopped. Runs great at operating speeds. It's on a 2004 F150, 4x4, 5.4 vin code 5.

More than likely you have a vaccume leak.Check arround the intake looking for any broken vac.hoses(especally the PCV hose) all the way up to where it connects to the intake.Could be a bad mass airflow sensor, but more likely a vac. leak.

any of those sensors can cause that but the best thing to do is scan it or check for a vacuum leak with a smoke machine.
