Check the ignition timing is set at no1 piston tdc compression stroke as you may be 180 degrees out in the firing order

Ram 3500 will not start batt ok turns over ok

Only two things can cause this (1) not getting gas and or (2) not getting spark.
Have someone crank while you hold spark plug wire just of off spark plug, if you see spark from wire too motor block then put a little gas into carb and see if it fires if it fires then look for a gas line or gas tank problem.

Got a craftsman C459-36310 159 cc walk behind lawn mower that wont start. its only a year old. ive changed gas and removed spark plug. it looks good.I added gas to spark plug and it turned over. help!

The needle jet in the carb is most likely to have varnish on it from sitting and the carb needs to be rebuilt at this point. You can get a rebuilt kit for it cheap. As long as you are getting air, fire and fuel to the engine it should run. Check to be sure you are getting these items to the engine and if not repair that item.

Try squirting a little oil into each cylinder. This might help raise the compression until the engine wears in.
Hope this helps.

Cant tell if i am gettong fuel to the engine

Turn it over and then remove a spark plug. But only if it is Gas (No spark plugs on Diesel engines) If the plug is wet, you are getting fuel through. While you have the plug out you could check if you are getting a spark. Rest the plug against the engine block whit the lead connected. You will need a friend for this next bit. Turn the engine over and watch the plug for a spark. If it is diesel then the problem is more difficult to check and should be checked by someone with a reasonable degree of mechanical knowledge. Hope this helps.

Rebuilt my motor and installed itin the car but wont run

Check for Gas...Check your Timing...You say you rebuit it..was it just the top end, or the whole motor ? I asked, because there is more things to list, but i wont go into too much detail because you might have done most of them anyway..And also check your compression....Goodluck...

Car wont start, sounds like out of gas but tank is full

A car not starting can be caused by many, many things.........but...................a bad thermostat or a good thermostat will not cause or keep a car from starting in any way. you need to know if it is getting gas to the cylinders........and to check for spark at the cylinders.......pull a spark plug wire at the spark plug, pull the spark plug and see if it looks wet or smells like strong gas odor....then plug wire onto spark plug, (without re-installing spark plug), and hold spark plug onto a grounded metal object on engine (using a rubber insulated object, so you don't get shocked), then have someone turn engine over and look to see if spark plug sparks........if yes, re-install spark plug, etc.......your ignintion is sparking, but if you are getting fuel, it may be a jumped timing chain? You may need mechanical help........don't trust the person that told you about a thermostat........

The engine was rebuilt and now it turns over but wont start

Make sure your getting gas to the carb, or throttle body. Also check to see if you have fire going to the spark plugs. If you have both fire and gas, I would go through my firing order and make sure the plug wires are in the right place. You should also check your timing.

1993 Riviera cranks, but no spark!

It sounds like you guys have tuned a few wrenches in your time so I'm not sure I'll be of much help. However I can offer a few general suggestions. Please don't be insulted if some of my suggestions seem way too obvious. I'm putting them down for other less experienced mechanics that may be reading this post.

1. Remove the distributor cap and crank the car. If the rotor turned you're ok. If it doesn't turn then that's you're problem and you will probably need to change a timing belt/chain.
2. Check the spark from the ignition coil by pulling the coil wire from the center of the distributor. Use an alligator clip to attach a short wire to the coil wire contact. Bare the other end of this short wire and set it up so it's sitting very close to the engine block. Turn off the lights and try to start the car. You should see a spark jump from this wire to the block. If you don't see a spark it's likely your ignition module or ignition coil is bad.
3. If you have a spark maybe it's not getting to the plugs. You may need to replace the distributor cap and rotor. You can test if the plugs are sparking by pulling one, re-attaching the spark plug wire and seeing if you get a spark when you try to start the engine in the dark. Please note, the metal threads of the spark plug need to be shorted to the engine block to complete the circuit during this test.
