Thanks. I take it that your mean a viscus fan assembly. By any chance do you know how to install one. Have you got any other suggestions?

    Thanks again

It is a charcterisric of Mistrals that they get hot while towing or under sustained heavy load.

Part of the reason for this is the link between the transmission and the engine coooling system. You may have noticed that in moderate to cool weather, the transmission will not shift to overdrive until the auto fluid has reached satisfactory operating temperature. The transmission and engine cooling are co-operative, and high temperatures in the auto trans., are reflected in the engine coolant temp. If this is of real concern, then an after-market addition to either cooling sysytem should help.

Sounds like you need a fan clutch.

The fan clutch is the thing that the fan on the front of the engine is bolted to. There is 4 nuts (maybe bolts) that hold the fan clutch to the water pump. Take them off and remove fan clutch with fan still connected to it. You will probably have to remove the bolts for the fan shroud and remove shroud and fan assy at the same time. Unbolt the fan from the fan clutch and put fan on new fan clutch making sure to not turn fan over when you put it on. Put fan assy inside the shroud and lower into place together. Bolt the fan assy to the water pump and bolt the shroud back on. Good luck and hope this is helpful.

My partners 2003 Nissan Presage high temperature light comes on only when we climb a significant hill and goes off when we level off. Any thoughts.

Coolant/water pump, residue in the engine or radiator, radiator isn't clean on the out side(too many bugs or dirt). 13 years old and can't handle the stress.

Why am i losing oil preshr

When are you losing oil pressure?? ie..When it is cold and warms up..when you increase the engine RPMs by giving it gas..when it is under load like climbing a hill, or with a lot of passengers, or pulling something..etc.

Switch to premium to see if that is a temp fix. Then run a full strength fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank.

Temp gauge rises up to about 3/4 on big up hill towing trailer with 2 motorbikes 2.0 diesel. Had radiator flushed, new cap, fans turn on?

It is normal for an engine doing quite a bit of work like this to get hotter when under load. When you say you had the radiator flushed was it done at a radiator shop rather than just back flowed . The top tank should be removed and whilst water is flowed through the core thin steel rods are passed in and out of the individual tubes. Then the radiator is reasembled and checked for leaks. Often the radiator when doing this can be 50% blocked or more which wont cause a problem unless on a hot day or with a big load .

Hi I have a late 1998 Holden Isuzu Rodeo D Cab 2.8L turbo diesel 4WD with 274000Km very well maintained it has a suspected overheating problem when under load. The radiator and hoses are new under a year...

the temperature gauge range of movement is still considdered an acceptable range and depending what weather conditions and other loading on vehicle eg going up hill also while towing. But some things ive come accross like possibly the water pump, at higher speeds the impeller could be loose on shaft and with pressure it may not be turning at proper speed, I would replace the thermostat for saftey measures also, while you looked at the water pump. Check out the heater hoses and pipes that run behind the engine to the other side for leaks also. check connections of temp sender unit wire on thermostat housing(there are 2 sensors on it) its the smaller of the 2.the other one is for cold starts

you might want to have a radiator shop run a flow test on the radiator to make sure it isn't partially plugged up. it is almost impossible to guestimate if it is plugged up partially without a flow meter. and on most computer controled engines the sensors depend on the thermostat to keep the temperature within the operating range of the sensors.

That is 1.4 metric tons, that is allot of weight, that is the problem, not the trans type, you are really pushing the limits of the SUV's tow capacity. Careful or you will burn up the transmission.
