Question about 1995 Jeep Cherokee

1995 Jeep Cherokee - Intermittent loss of power

My 1995 Cherokee Sport 4.1 liter runs great most of the time- it has approx 250,000 miles. Occasionally the engine chokes back and does not respond above 25. It runs until you give it gas to go above 25 and it starts to die. We have used fuel additives and are pretty sure it's not the gas, we have also replaced the air filter. There is a rattle in the exhaust system that been there for about 8-12 months, possibly the catalyic converter. It only chokes occasionally. It has done it twice in the last month. Anyone got an idea as to what would be the most likely cause and where I should start looking?

Sounds like you may need a new CAT. If a chunk of the honey comb has broken off and is blocking the exhaust pipe, that would cause your symptom.

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport (approx 178,000 miles) When first starting engine liquid drips out from tailpipe. Never notice this before. Doesn't appear to last long, after I have driven it around for 15...

Your liquid is most likely built up condensation from the last run. It is very common to have this on start up. If it last a long time and is white and cloud like in shape and color then you have coolant leaking into the combustion chamber.

Does the 2000 4.0 liter Jeep Cherokee Sport need to have timing belt replaced and at approx what mileage intervals?

There are no jeeps with a timing belt. Your 4.0 has a timing chain and it will last the life of the engine as long as you take care of the engine.

Best way to shift from 2 hi into 4 hi or low is to have the vehicle completely stopped, in neutral, and then move the shifter lever. Any other way can damage your transfercase, which sounds like thats what you did. Trans shop.

Power loss after running

loss of power can happen even if exhaust does not flow in other words you have a rstriction in the exhaust usualy the catalytic converter has collapsed any exhaust shop will be able to tell you right away, or when you loose power do you hear a hissing noise ? if so that is clearly a clogged converter replace the catalytic converter
