Question about 1992 Dodge Caravan
I need to know how to get my alternator belt on to the engine correctly, it is too tight to fit over the wheels, i need to know how to reduce the tension on the belt so it will slide on.
Put the belt on the regular-size pulleys. There will be a pulley close to you that is spring-loaded and very hard to compress. This is your belt tensioner. It has no grooves like the other pulleys (it's smooth). Usually takes a socket and a wratchet to compress enough for your belt to slip on. Good luck.

Never attempt to remove the alternator or disconnect any wires to the alternator without first disconnecting the battery negative cable. It's a good practice to wrap the cable with tape or insert the cable inside a rubber hose to prevent accidental contact with the battery terminal.Always wear safety glasses when working around the battery.
Over tightening of the alternator drive belt will cause the unit to whine and premature failure of the alternator drive end bearing, the water pump or the engine crankshaft
