If you can give as much info about issue as possible. But if this helps, do a preliminary check, look all over the engine compartment. Your looking for the source of the antifreeze trails. You may also want to look for white, chalky trails. If you come up empty handed then you'll need to pressure test the cooling system ( special pump is used) don't exceed the pressure limit of your system. The PSI limit is on your cap or your owners manual.

Heater not blowing hot air & vacuum leak

sounds to me the hissing is the sound of a leaking heater core. Its smells weird becuse coolent usually has a sweet smell that is very noticeable. I bet the floor is wet/carpet damp in the front near the hissing. I bet your coolent level is low as well. Replace heater core.

I have a 2003 kia sorento, I had an anti and fiannly I added some Barrs leak. It stopped for awhile. Now I have little warmth, but heater gauge goes to 3/4 mark not half way mark. I drove for an hour...

If you keep topping it up it is still leaking and if there is no external leak then you probably have a blown head gasket with water leaking into the cylinders. You need pressure checks on the radiator and engine to find out where it is bad.
Check your oil level and see if the oil on the dip stick is white and foamy or clean and just dirty oily. If it is white and foamy it has water mixed with it (emulsified) and you have a leak between the water and oil galleries. (Normally a head gasket)
If the car will let you see the coolant, top the radiator up with the engine cold and leave the cap off so you can see the water flowing round. Run the engine until you see the water flowing round when the engine thermostat opens. If you get air bubbles in the radiator coolant your head gasket has gone. If you get a sudden burst of air through the coolant, again, the head gasket has gone.

It will NOT get better by itself and could be an expensive repair - new car time? Sorry.

Anti freeze leak I hear hissing sound under neath fuel injection system

could be leaking at the top radiator hose going to thermostat, that is a hard spot to see leak remove the air filter and air filter housing look below throttle body you see thermostat housing, check for leaks around thermostat housing gasket and check for leak at the top radiator hose going to radiator and thermostat.if all is good check all radiator hoses for leaks check small coolant lines going to throttle body for leaks and check make sure bleeder screw on thermostat housing not loose it will leak also check around radiator and water pump heater bypass metal lines for leaks.

My 2001 mercury sable is loosing anti-freeze, I do not see any signs of it leaking but when I am sitting idle at a stop light steam appears to come from under the passenger side of the engine compartment....

You have a small leak, probably in the radiator. You do not see drips because the coolant is leaking onto hot engine or exhaust parts or the hot radiator, and evaporating. This is why you see steam.

What is wrong when my 1998 Oldsmobile Van suddenly has the temp gauge peaking then lowering - back and forth based on turns and when I hit the gas. Then when I got home, I opened the hood thinking it...

You are probably low on coolant. When there is air against the temperature sensor, it will read cool even when hot, because air won't conduct the termperature to the sensor. This explains why turn slosh would make it work for a bit. Hissing is very bad. That not only means hot, but leak. You can't drive a car with leaks. If you need to drive it to a shop, wait for it to cool, then add as much coolant as it wants. Then leave the cap loose. This will prevent pressure that can blow out all the coolant, but it is not a permanent cure. Water will slowly boil away, so is only a short distance patch. If you can tell were the coolant got lost to, you may be able to fix it yourself. But once over heated, you need to change the thermostat. If you can't find a leak, then rent/borrow a radiator pressure pump. Pump it up to a little more then the cap is rated for, and you will probably see the leak. If you don't, and if the pressure does not hold (slowly leaks down), then you probably have a bad head gasket. Hope not, because that is more like $600.

BMW 1998 528I major overheating issues.

Radiators leak and break easily on the 528i. Also, there are bleed screws that are plastic that can sheer off and create a leak on the two main hoses.
Or, the guy who did your head gasket didn't check it for cracks, so it's leaking into the cylinder chamber and burning out.

Oil leak from pan and diying out in traffic do i replace oil pump?

Hissing noise generally is associated with a vacuum leak (which also causes rough idle and stalling) Find the source of the hissing noise and likely you will have found the problem.

1992 ford taurus has high idle all the time

Hi idle with no "check engine" lite , indicates a vacumm leak. Check all hoses for cracking or disconnection. Sometimes with engine running, you may hear a "hissing" coming from somewhere under the hood. Good luck. Moe

Anti freeze leak

hi are you overheating and are you having to fill it up because it is leaking or were you just toping up and is it coming out of the overflow on the expansion bottle to find a leak that at first appears not to be leaking the best way to find it is to put a pressure tester on it see if the pressure goes down as it will if there is a leak but then you will see it and don,t take the water cooling systems caps off when hot yates210456
