If the MIL is flashing, then there is a serious problem with the engine that causes the emissions to be way out of the parameters preset by the manufacturer in the computer. This is something that I would take to a technician ASAP to have diagnosed.

Why does check engine light blink when I accelerate?

Hi Ced ,
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is located in the instrument panel cluster. The MIL will display as either SERVICE ENGINE SOON or one of the following symbols when commanded ON:
Check engine ! The MIL indicates that an emissions related fault has occurred and vehicle service is required.
The following is a list of the modes of operation for the MIL:
?€¢
The MIL illuminates when the ignition is turned ON, with the engine OFF. This is a bulb test to ensure the MIL is able to illuminate.

?€¢
The MIL turns OFF after the engine is started if a diagnostic fault is not present.

?€¢
The MIL remains illuminated after the engine is started if the control module detects a fault. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored any time the control module illuminates the MIL due to an emissions related fault. The MIL turns OFF after three consecutive ignition cycles in which a Test Passed has been reported for the diagnostic test that originally caused the MIL to illuminate.

?€¢
The MIL flashes if the control module detects a misfire condition which could damage the catalytic converter.

?€¢
When the MIL is illuminated and the engine stalls, the MIL will remain illuminated as long as the ignition is ON.

?€¢
When the MIL is not illuminated and the engine stalls, the MIL will not illuminate until the ignition is cycled OFF and then ON.

CHECK ENGINE LAMP ("MIL") ILLUMINATED & FLASHING=DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE !! A FLASHING 'MIL' INDICATES FUEL BURNING IN THE CAT CONVERTER & WILL 'KILL' THE CAT(s) !!
1-SCAN,CHECK FOR CODE(s)
2-PREFORM APPROPRIATE REPAIRS

I have a 1993 jeep grand cherokee and it died while driving down the freeway, replaced the computer. It turns over but will not start. No spark.

Do you do any testing before you replaced computer? Why did you replace computer? Did you check trouble codes before you replaced anything? If your missing fuel--spark and fuel injector pulse, I'd have to check for rpm signal. On this vehicle, you may need to check cam and crank sensor both.
Hopefully you can get some mil codes, but after replacing computer, I don't know? To get mil codes, you can try cycling the ignition switch, on--off, on--off, on--off, on, then the mil on the dash starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes.
These are two digit codes. I have to post basic info because nobody ever tells us what kind of testing they have done? Listed below are some of the codes.

Why is my MIL flashing?

Check for codes then google them, to see what
vehicle system failed

Check lights have been on all vehicles for 32 years,
long time not be up to speed

Check out OBD2 Systems when your on Google

I wouldn't drive it, if the light is flashing, other than to a repair
shop

Flashing MIL Lamp on some vehicles is a Class A cylinder
misfire & can ruin the exhaust converter & other things

When you have any light stay on your dash after the motor
is running, you got a problem

Where can find the plug to get cheek compuetr in grand cherokee 94

1994 is before OBD II, so it won't have the plug your thinking of. Here is the procedure to get the trouble code(s) if the check engine light is on. MIL is the check engine light.

MIL Method

This procedure may be used on 1991-96 models.
  1. Start the engine, if possible, cycle the transmission selector and the A/C switch if applicable. Shut off the engine.
  2. Turn the ignition switch ON-OFF, ON-OFF, ON-OFF, ON within 5 seconds.
  3. Observe the MIL on the instrument panel.
  4. Just after the last ON cycle, MIL will begin flashing the stored codes.
  5. The codes are transmitted as two digit flashes. For example Code 21 will be displayed as a FLASH FLASH pause FLASH.
  6. Be ready to write down the codes as they appear; the only way to repeat the codes is to start over at the beginning.

Diff lock flashing while driving

I am confused, are you sure it's not the MIL light? if it is the MIL (check engine) light flashing, then you have a severe misfire and you should not drive your truck because you would be killing your catalitic converter. if there is a diff light i would go to autozone and get a free code check.

Code reads egr valve/sensor problem. My check engine light recently starting flashing (instead of just staying on). I notice when it is flashing a shutter in the car and more difficulty driving. Also when...

EGR Valve failed, causing the MIL Lamp to come on and car to slam and ****, going up hills, that is when you have a high vacuum load on engine. May seem like a trans problem.
