Check engine light for o2s2 says no activity. when removed sensor had carbon on it

Check engine light stays on code po141 says no activity sensed on ho2 sensor is it possible ecm faulted or should i be looking else where

SOURCE: Check Engine Light

It sounds like you may have a failing Mass Air Flow sensor, seems like Ive been seeing these tied together quite often. Its a little tricky but a good repair shop should be able to test this sensor. I dont want to tell you to replace it without having it tested cause they are a bit pricey but check around, you never know. Hope this give youu another idea where to look.

according to the manual i have... it has three.... one in the exhaust manifold.... and two in the exhaust pipe..... slightly vauge on the exact location of the last two sensors... but looks like it is after the catylitic converter.

Trouble Code Conditions:
During testing the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) heaters are checked for open and short circuits and excessive current draw. The test fails when the current draw exceeds a calibrated limit or an open or short circuit is detected.
Possible Causes:

  • Vacuum hose disconnected on exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module (ESM) applications* Short to VPWR in the harness or HO2S
  • Water in the harness connector
  • Open VPWR circuit
  • Open GND circuit
  • Low battery voltage
  • Corrosion or incorrec
The sensors themselves appear in the illustration linked to below. The illustration is for the Ford Ranger but indications are that other models have similar locations. Hope this helps with your problem. Best of luck!

I had the SAME thing with my car!! Remove your air bag module its a grayish looking box that deploys your air bags, my air bag light was on but it was on and off. I pumped gas in my car one night and when i went to crank it my car cut right off after a split second. My mechanic took time on it but discover that it was a secrity issue. He removed the air bag module and presto it fired right up. I thought it was a fuel filter or fuel pump. It was just the air bag module, people freaked out about it once i told them what it was....it should be under the passenger seat, i believe u may have to take out the seat to get to it.

po141, may be a bad o2 sensor, rear sensor after converter. the po 141 is low voltage to tps, try replacing the oyxgen sensor first and then reset the codes and drive if the po141 comes back then replace the tps,

ENGINE LIGHT ON CODES P0141 & P0144


code p 0141 refers to heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 2 bank 1--heater control--circuit malfunction===causes --wiring---HO2S--- ECM
code p 0144 refers to heated oxygen sensor(HO2S) 3 bank 1--high voltage ===causes wiring short to positive ---HO2S---ECM

HO2S sensors are the units in the exhaust manifolds or before the cat converters
O2 sensors are after the cat converter
two completely different operations
use the special tool for sensors as the wires are easily damaged from the wrong tool use
as for misfiring you will get a P0300 (0300,0301,0302,0303 etc) depending on which cylinders are misfiring
when checking for misfiring the injectors , (blocked or not firing) are as important as plugs and wires
If the misfiring continues after sensor replacement , replace the ECM with a known good one as it is common to all fault codes and misfiring

Why did service engine light came on after filling with fuel with a higher ethanol rating?


it is possible that the HO2S sensors are sensing the different octane ratings ( gas content in the exhaust) and this has placed the fuel trim settings out in the ECM/CPU program. Run the fault codes to check and if OK reset the engine light. The fuel trim settings will automatically adjust to the new settings from the sensors but it may take a bit of driving time for the new settings to be effective.

code p0154 refers to heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 1 bank 2 -- no activity detected===causes --wiring---HO2S---= ECM
it also refers to oxygen sensor (O2S) --no activity detected--===causes --- wiring---O2S sensor---ECM. May be you did not replace the sensors causing the fault.

Check engine light is on. Does replacing the oil filter fix the problem? The codes are: P171, P174

P0154 is an OBDII code for a 'lazy' O2 sensor, it is not switching fast enough for the ECU to adjust parameters when managing your engine-you probably are over 100,000 miles now, they get a coating on them that makes them react slower than expected-time to replace, they run about $50 and are pretty easy to change.

P0432 - Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2
The ECM or PCM monitors the front an rear O2 sensors. The ECM or PCM detects Warm up Catalytic Converter when the sensors are out of specifications.

DTC is set when the ECM or PCM detects rear HO2S value difference becomes closer to value of front HO2S. The ECM or PCM monitors when vehicle speed is 25-60 MPH, load is 22-45 percent and engine speed is 1000-3000 RPM.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible causes
- Warm Up Three Way Catalytic converter deterioration or malfunction. - Exhaust system leaks. - Loose front or rear HO2Ss. - Front HO2S malfunction. - O2 sensors harness or connectors

Possible solution
- Replaced Catalytic Converter - Replaced rear O2 sensor - Repair wire harness or connectors
