ASSUMING YOU HAVE A 3.4L ENGINE, YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE EGR VALVE AND THE THROTTLE BODY. RUN A PIECE OF A HANGER THROUGH THE EGR PORT AND REMOVE THE CARBON PARTS THROUGH THE THROTTLE BODY.

How can I by-pass the egr valve in a international pro-star with a 450 maxxforce engine?


DO NOT BYPASS AN EGR VALVE. the computer commands this to open at certain times and some require feedback form the egr. then it will turn on the service engine soon light. egr valves are part of the emission system and stop valve rattle which can cause valve failure. just get a new one and do not try to clean it as it will not work hence stick.

Why would my car not pass Georgia Emissions testing?


Can you remember how many miles you have driven since the engine was installed? What I mean is that if you have a good running engine and have a new converter, sometimes the easiest things are the ones overlooked. Check your air filter to make sure it isn't dirty and restricting air flow. Also check your spark plugs to see what kind of shape they are in and if they are burning clean. Spark plugs can tell a lot. If you had transfered any emission related parts from the old engine to the new, maybe one of those items has an issue or is clogged. I hope this helps. Good luck.

code p0703 refers to torque converter switch B circuit malfunction causes ---wiring--- torque converter/ brake switch---ECM/TCMcode p0420 refers to exhaust gas recirculation EGR system --excessive flow detected.. causes ---hose/s leak/ blockage---basic setting not carried out9IF applicable) ---wiring----EGR valveEGR solenoid--- ECM. I suggest to replace EGR valve and soledoid. Have a trabby shop check out the first one.

I have a 2003 Grand Am GT with 185K on it currently. I have had the intake manifold gasket replaced, the cylinder heads done last year and now my SES light comes on now and then, had it scanned and the P1404 fault code comes up..they tell me it related to the EGR valve. Luckily, I work at a car dealership, but my car hesistates to get speed going on the highway, the RPM's will be up to like 3 and I'll be doing 35mph. I thought it was the transmission starting to go, but hopefully not. Anyway, I feel your pain, they did guess work last year and was replacing parts I didn't need only to find it was the cylinder heads leaking. I didn't have the usual symptoms of white smoke, etc. Anyways, I would recommend calling Pontiac and tell the dealer to cut the **** and fix the damn car. That's what I did and they were hot on the case involving the general manager of the store. They ended up giving me a huge goodwill because I told Pontiac that they were just putting parts in my car, charging me and not fixing the issue. I got a free rental and everything. I was going to report them to the Attorney General. I hope you find the issue with your vehicle, I just paid my off literally last week after a 5 year loan and I want to have this car for a couple of more years seeing as I just put so much $$$ into it.

2003 Grand Am: Just replaced egr valve car has and cleaned maf se...


Symptoms....car throws a check engine code for the EGR valve.... car has noticeably less power (especially on the highway)and fuel mileage is noticably worse.
Cause....catalytic converter.

Nope, you just need more miles. When the car's computer has been disconnected from power (such as when the battery is unhooked), it'll set what are called "readiness codes" when power is reapplied. It takes a certain number of miles to clear these - some cars require 50 miles, some 100 miles, and some (such as some Isuzu models) need very specific drive cycles to clear them. Once the requisite number of miles have been driven without issues, the readiness codes will extinguish and your car should pass.

I wouldn't have gotten a cat. If the o2s are all replaced, then it could be an EGR valve
