ABS light appeared on dash for a few seconds before going out. What does ABS light mena?

I have a 2000 Jetta. A light flashed on for a few seconds that said "ABS" and chimes went off for a few seconds, but then it was gone. Has happened twice now in a few weeks. What does "ABS" mean?

ABS stands for Anti-Lock Braking system. The system could be triggered if you are on wet pavement or sliding and the brakes cannot properly control the vehicle deceleration. The vehicle could also have a fault in the ABS system due to a wheel sensor that is corroded or damaged. This type of problem is best left to an expert as the ABS system can be very expensive to repair.

Abs is your anti lock braking system but it can be as simple as low brake fluid to fix

2000 VW Jetta. Upon car start up the e-brake light will begin flashing and beep three times, and the abs light will come on at random times. I don't believe that it's the e-brake, as when you pull up on...

It is likely that you have a defective ABS sensor. You should get a VAG-COM reader to see if the ABS module has failed. It's cheaper to buy one than to have it checked at the dealer.

If it says that the ABS computer is dead, DO NOT BUY A NEW ONE. They are something like $1500 to $2000 and there is no need for a 2000 model year car. Instead, visit where a guy named Matt fixes these things. You just follow the directions to remove the ABS module from the car. Then mail it in to him (there is a form to fill out, etc.) and he will repair it and return the module to you.

While it is out of the car, it is likely no different than what you have today. I should have said this above, but to verify that your ABS module is dead, the next time it rains, or if you have access to a dirt road nearby, drive somewhere that there is no traffic, and get the car going about 20 mph and then STOMP on the brakes as hard as you can. If you skid without feeling/hearing the ABS pumping away, your module is dead and CheapABS is the $150 solution. If the ABS works, then it is something else... possibly a wheel sensor,

Sometimes you get a flashing brake light because the fluid is low. That one is a super-easy fix... top up the brake fluid. But that shouldn't light up the ABS light, which is why I think it's the module.

I have used Matt twice. Once to fix a module, and once to get assistance (was not related to the module). He's great. I've got a BMW 530i needing the same attention, and will use his services for that as well. And no... I'm not Matt. Just a happy customer of his.

some of the modules could be failin--have vehicle scanned and run a data stream to confirm--sensors or acuators may be at issue too

I drive jetta and the ABS light suddenly flashed.any idea what was going?

ABS are your brakes and you dont want to take a chance with them going wrong as the abs brakes could be anything like low in brake fluid or disc binding and getting warm or hotter then the others as with abs it works that when you brake hard the brake pedal holds and then lets go for a split second and then grabs again ..but if the engine goes then the Brakes have to be 100% and you dont always get a second chance so get it checked out..
