Battery constantly dies in my 89 toyo camry

I was wondering what could be killing the battery in my 89 camry. I have already replaced the battery. The car will not start if it is left sitting for a day or 2.

To motor1258, the car has original stereo and nothing extra. I bought the car after it had sat for some time and there is some corrosion on the battery terminals.

Ok. I will check it out.

Haven't got an aftermarket stereo & amp, or security system do you? If yes to either, pull the fuse to one or the other or both while parked & see what happens. There is an easy way to narrow it down if your up to the task & have a $10 - 12volt test light.

You have a battery drain while the car is off. If you disconnect one of the battery terminals, the battery will not go dead. Check for a underhood lamp on, or a glove box lamp.

You can also pull one fuse at a time until the battery draw stops. Then check that ciruit. You will need to have an ammeter in series betwen the battery post and the battery cable.

I doubt it's the alterantor. Check battery voltage with engine off. Should be just above 12 volts. With engine running, it should be about 14 volts. If yes, alternator is working.

My toyota camry 89 won't turn over

do you mean it will not crank? if it does not crank have you got a full battery? if battery is full try turning the motor over either with a spanner or try rolling it and see if the engine turns. i would think maybe either your battery is flat or your starter motor has died. let me know what you find out with the battery and starter motor.

Sounds like something is drawing power from the battery when you are not driving your car. Check interior lights, head lights, brake lights, aftermarket stereo or trailer wiring.

"it always dies if it dont drive it for 3 days or more,"

Sounds like you have a constant drain on your battery -- when engine is off the drain kills the battery. That cause is almost always very difficult to find.

" wondering if there is a specific battery I should be looking for"

In terms of the type battery, no kind is going to withstand a constant drain (if you have one) -- I'd just get whatever battery they look up at the parts store.

I have an 89 toyo camry with 222,000 miles on it. the symbol for lights on the dash goes on when i put the car in drive. all lights appear to be working. why is this?

There is a control box in the trunk of that vehicle for the tail lights. It's located in the left hand side of the trunk, behind the quarter panel covering. It's about the size of a computer hard drive and it will be either white or yellow. If you open that box up you'll probably find one of the solder joint jumpers broken, which can easily be fixed with a solder gun and a little solder. It's alot cheaper to fix them, than to replace, because the last time I priced one it was almost $200. I hope this helps and good luck.
