SOURCE: Oil pressure light on at idle

Don't delay on this. Take the vehicle in and have the oil pressure sensor checked. It could be just the sensor or it could be something more serious. A drop in oil pressure could lead to catastrophic engine failure.

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9L oil pressure

The pickup tube is a bad design in these engines, I have fixed several with the same problem, you can weld on a GM screen move it 1/4 of a inch away from the pan or add 1 inch to the bottom of the pan, (use a high volume pump) the problem is the screen is too close and too small and will pick up any sludge off the bottom. also it's great to make a access plate on the bottom of the pan using a Volkswagen Bug oil cover plate, it can be removed with bolts after a oil drain to clean the screen without the hassle of removing the whole oil pan by lifting the engine on these trucks. Good Luck

SOURCE: Oil Pressure Light Comes On after 10 min of Driving

You may not have put the right amount of oil in your car, your oil pressure sensor could be faulty, or you may have a leak.

By revving your engine, you're increasing the pressure and thus turning off the light and making the sensor think that it's at the correct pressure.

Me again, my truck when i start it up in the morning oil pressure is good but the 15 min. ride to work pressure drops down to around 5-10, but i dont lose any power still runs strong

5-10 psi at idle with a warm to hot engine is not unusual with a well used engine but is low enough to ring alarm bells if that is the reading at speed. The manufacturer will issue specifications for an oil pressure test but as a general rule the test would be made at around 2000 rpm and the oil pressure should be around the oil pressure relief valve lift-off pressure which commonly is about 40-45 psi but could be higher or slightly lower.

Oil pressure has little relationship with engine power as long as it still has some...

If the oil pressure is low the cause might be simple or it might be complex and expensive, but whichever it turns out to be, rectification should not be delayed even for a day...

High temp low oil pressure light comes on after driving for a few minutes, then off when engine at driving rpm. At stop light (idle or low rpm) light comes back on. Normal driving it goes out.

You need to find out why you have low oil pressure. It is normal that as engine rpm's increase, the oil pressure will rise- the oil pump is moving oil faster. Even though your light goes out, you could still have critically low oil pressure. There should be sufficient pressure at idle to keep the light off. The light will come on when your oil pressure is almost nil- I believe for some it's as low as 8 psi. Normally, oil pressure at idle is specified anywhere from 15 to 40 psi. You would have to check specifications for your Expedition. To verify oil pressure, hook up a mechanical gauge at the oil pressure sending unit on the engine block. Check with a local shop.

The causes run from easy, simple to budget busting ruin. Low oil level, wrong grade oil, real old oil, oil leaks, internal oil leaks, worn oil pump, worn crankshaft bearings. It was pretty common on older very high mileage cars to have a fluttering oil light at stops and idle. It was time for a rebuild, or time to look for another car.

Low oil pressure 5.3 lts engine

Are you idling or is it doing 10 PSI driving it? If it has many miles on it it could be just getting worn out and that would be low oil pressure at idle when hot.

Hello! As long as the oil pressure does not drop below 10-15 lbs at idle and iccreases with rpm/s I would not worry...Change to a higher range viscosity oil; 10W30 in the summer and 10W40 in the winter and you should not have a problem...Guru...saailer

Oil pressure on my new 2010 Sierra does not exceed 30 psi except when cold.

newer engines require less oil pressure by design and this is within the normal range as long as the idle pressure hot is at least 15 PSI, remember producing high oil pressure requires energy and reduces fuel millage.

Had new motor put in chevy truck and oil pressure runs below 30ps

At 2000 RPM a new GM engine should be close to 45 psi for oil pressure. It'll drop to mid or high 30's at idle. Hope this helps.

It IS NOT Advisable to Drive this Vehicle Untill This Problem is AT LEIST DIAGNOSED, You Need A MANUAL OIL Pressure TEST, to Determine If OIL PRUSSURE is SAFE @ >>Oil Pressure at idle speed with engine at operating temp.min. bar 0.5 Regulated Pressure bar 4.3
If it Is ok First On List Is Oil Pressure Sensor But if it's Low> Replace
Oil PUMP
Obviously Inspect Wires To Sensor / Sensors Before High Dollar Parts Are Resorted to.
