Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Starts at high rev and then dies

The engine starts at very high revs and then dies. It was running just fine. I changer the thermostat hoses and disconnected the battery from the negative side.

Hello, I would check your air flow control valve and that should be behind your throttlebody. Autozone can also check your engine codes for you for free. If you have any other questions you can email me and I hope you have good luck with this.

Engine starts and idles fine, but will not rev up (2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 diesel auto)

If it was a fuel shortage the engine would rev but to limited speed. This is a lack of air to throttle body. Check for clogged air filter and all the piping and the throttle body.

My 95 3L Lebaron Dies when the car is stopped. It starts then dies immediately, after many cranks with lots a gas it will run. Only happens when cold.

I'd use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, key on engine off. My info says 48 psi.
How long since over-all tune up?

Starts just fine but dies at idle. will keep running when stepp[ng on gas pedal

if the car runs fine at high revs, I suggest just turning the idle revs up 150ish, it could be a block cat converter, or restricted airflow making it die. but quick fix turn revs up 150rpm will do no harm and if it dies at higher revs, take it 2 the garage to see if they can find the thing.

Every car and truck out there today have a REV limiter on them ,it won't let you over rev the engine.

1976 Gran Torino motorcraft 2150 2bbl carb. Starts and runs ok at high revs but as choke eases off and revs decrease, engine stalls. Fuel pump OK. Float levels and choke pull off OK. No obvious vacuum...

Are you sure your idle ports ( size of pinhole) in carb aren't plugged with something? What happens if it starts to die, and you give it a quick squirt of WD-40 , down throat of carb?
