Shift cable adjustment on 2000 chevy impala

I installed a new transmission in my chevy impala ls and when I was done the gear selector was a gear off (reverse was park ) the cable has a horse shoe connecter on one side and a clip on the other. the problem is when I go to put the car in park it doesn't go all the way in and the power wont turn off to the vechicle all the way, killing the battery. Has anyone ran across this problem before? I would be very appreciative if someone could respond. thank you and happy new year

SOURCE: 2006 Chevy Impala stuck in park

When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .

How do I fix a gear shift it moves but wont go in any gear its a 2000 chevy impala

S heck the linkage at the transmission to make sure it is moving with the gear shifter. If it is your transmission is probably shot. If not then you have a bushing in the li kage that is bad.

2000 Lincoln ls has replaced motor and many components under the hood actuator seems to be in line so gears read with only ignition on but when started and attempted to gearshift dash on E help?

I am having a difficult time understanding your writing. If I understand what you have written: You changed the Engine but WHAT ACTUATOR? there is a Neutral Safety Switch (many people call it the PRNDL Switch). You need to adjust the Neutral Safety Switch by placing it in NEUTRAL POSITION on the Transmission and then aligning the the Shift Mechanism that is will read N.

When you attempt to Gear Shift, I am assuming you are referring to starting the Car? And it goes to "E" ?

Does your Car START?
Is your "E" are you talking about the Fuel Gauge?

A. It sounds like you missed a Ground Wire Connection OR
B. You pinched a wire during the Installation and you need to located it and repair the wire.

Why will key not turn fully off

As with all modern cars, the transmission has to be in "PARK" before their ignition switch can be turned "fully off". If it does not turn off with the gear selector (I'm assuming the the car has an automatic transmission) in park, then you have a gear selector, out of adjustment problem, which is easy to fix. If you just had the transmission removed or replaced, then the shop where the work was done owes you an adjustment.

If you have no check engine light on, than change the filter and if that dont do it, your transmission is bad

Clucth not disengauging....

try have 2 shifter is select cable the other is shift cable.first put the transmission selector lever in neutral.then move transmission shift lever to 4th gear.depress clutch to if necessary to shift.move the shift lever to the 4th gear position until contacts stop.then you turn the adjuster turn buckle so the shift cable eye aligns with the eye in the gear shift lever.when installing the cable eye. make sure the flange side of plastic bushing at the shift cable end is on the cotter pin side.the cables should be adjusted so the clearance between the shift lever and both stoppers are equal when the shift lever is moved to 3rd and 4th gear. move the shift lever to each position and check that the shifting is smooth.

2000 impala ls trans problem

The problem is a known issue with the 1 to 2 shift at hard throttle. The fix is a repair of the entire 2nd clutch assy. in the transmission. There is a TSB about it released by Chevy. It will need that rebuild for the sudder to go away, or you can try and let off it at shift to stretch more miles out of it.
