if the light is blue it just means the car is not at operating temperature yet. let the car warm up before driving. if the light is red and only stays on for seconds check the coolant level. could possibly be a bad level sensor also if the light is red

You could have a:
1) failing thermostat (bad)
2) failing water pump (worse)
3) failing head gasket (worst)
Or possibly, radiator problems.
You need to have this checked and fast. If #3 is true, you could be warping your head right now.

when the level of coolant drops in the motor the heater core is the first to be without
because it sets up high
so you need to check the level
and check where the coolant is going
to make the level drop
