Question about 2003 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

2003 ford expedition , missing while accelerating

HELP anyone that can help I would greatly appreciate.
While accelerating it misses, causes dash light (high temp/low oil) to come on and anti-theft light to blink. If push on gas then it kick in and all lights go out. When it does not kick in then it chugs like it is going to die. If i pull over and turn off then restart it goes back to normal for a little while. Today it died and over drive light just blinked.

This vehicle is so expensive to repair or guess at what is wrong, but if anyone has any information I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks

Does there have to be a code showing up for them to test? As I have no codes this time as I did about a year ago. As I had to replace 2 coils and 2 cataletic converters and now having the same issue.

I was just told by a ford tech to check to see if it is overcharging - not sure what that means. And to go to parts store to scan for codes, but I thought you could not scan for codes if the check engine light is not on.

Most likely cause is a defective ignition coil, there is one for each cylinder (coil over plug), the dealer will have to test it to determine which of the eight coils is the source of the miss. the coils are about $60 each

when the check engine light is on is when you scan for codes, when the light is on a code is recorded in the memory of the computer (known a a PCM) as to what part of the electronics has a problem, overcharging is when the alternator puts out to high of a voltage. have Autozone test the charging system and the battery fro proper function. Have the trouble codes run and let me know what shows up.

its not a recall but ford put out a service bulliten to the dealers, Its called the alternator wireing harness. If you follow the 1 of the two red wires that comes out of your battery one has a long black clip on it that says "fuseable link" just past this clip two smaller wires branch off. a short one that runs towards the front of the truck and a longer one that runs back towards the bottom of the battery, This longer one is resting on a aluminum AC pipe. Where the wire rests on this pipe, flip the wire over and you will see it is worn down to the bare copper threads, Tape it up and tape where it rests on the pipe or go to ford and order a new one, its a 10 min job you can do yourself. The part is under $40bucks

2006 f350 6.0 powerstroke diesel missing. help

there is no wastegate on a 6.0l turbo. its a variable geometry turbocharger and doesn't need it. i have never seen a turbocharger cause a misfire, the turbocharger is most likely not your problem. if you didn't clean the intake out when replacing the egr valve there is a really good chance that the egr is bad again. also, a bad egr cooler can cause repeat egr failure. also, fuel injector control module is a common cause for misfire

I have a 2006 expedition with 136,000 miles and have had the transmission checked and replaced the coil wires but it still misses at 40-50 MPH and at 70 mph does the same sound. If you accelerate and back off the go again it sounds like the transmission is clunking but the transmission guy said it wasn't the transmission. HELP!!!

There could be a fuse you are missing. I don't know your model well enough to say, but some have a separate fuse under the dash.
