Question about 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Blower motor or resistor?

My fan speeds 1 , 2, 3 did not work, soon speed 4 went and speed 5 only worked now none of them work I have no heat now. Before speed 5 stopped it started making a loud noise lasted a few days then died. I have been told replace the blower motor and then I was told replace the resistor, so I wonder which it is? Thanks
1995 Chevy Silverado, V-6
Blower motor turns off when key is off (thats OK). When powered up the fan speed fluxuates on off (yes off) and 1-2-3. Sometimes it will shut off when moved to 1-2-3 levels. Replaced the resistor pack with the coils (no change) replaced the relay by the resistor (no change).

I have the same problem with a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500, speeds 1-2-3 did not work then yesterday I took the truck for 2 hour drive with the A/C on for most of the trip in about 85-90 degree weather and today #4 went out, can someone point out what i need to do.

Replace the blower switch in the dash control, they get burnt, u may also need to replace the connector to the switch, if so contact the dealer parts dept, since this switch usually burns up from excessive current draw fromblower motor also replace the blower motor.

probley one of five possiabes problems

1. blower motor is bad (if case alot times will take resistor or relay out with it)

2. blower resistor (conrols fan speeds usally one speed will go out first example still have high speed but now low)

3. relay (may be one or up to three) (if more than one usally wont have the resistor stated above)

4. fuses

5. blower switch

2001 Jeep Wrangler heater blower stopped working

Yes I would go with the switch, BUT, does it have a resistor bank? That is, how does it reduce the speed? Many systems use resistors to lower the speed. Burnt or bad connections can cause this as well.
You can test the blower motor by connecting direct power from a source like the cigarette lighter if you are handy.
Most of the time the lower speeds konk out but the high speed continues to work this is the resistor bank that goes out.

2006 silverado 5 speed heat, the high speed is not working. I do have the 4 lower speeds

The switch, high blower speed relay or the wire harness at the blower motor has gone bad. The highest setting 5 has no resistor, so the blower runs on high but the high current flow ends up burning up the switch's contact on that setting or the relay and may be the resistor wire harness at the blower motor has gone bad. Common would be the switch it self, if the switch is good. Then it's going to be the blower relay or wire leads at the speed resistor by the blower motor under the glove box by the passenger leg compartment. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your Silverado running 100% again soon.

The fan in my truck only turns on on high speed.

A bad blower motor resistor will cause it. It is located ny the blower motor p.s. below dash.

Heat/ac blower motor works on high. intermittent on other speeds.

Check the blower resistor pack - usually located in the heater air ducting in the blower fan airflow. Check for loose connections and open circuit resistors on the unit.
If speed 4 works always, its unlikely to be the blower motor ground connection.

Blower motor or resistor?

Yes its the blower motor resistor.

More then likley theres some trash or something in it, or possibly the motor itself is on it's way out. There not that bad to pull out of that body car, just pull it out and see what you can see.

The blower motor is under the glove compartment

You can replace the resistor on your own. Please find a detailed diagram which would guide you to do it.

Blower motor or resistor?

If it was the motor that went out then it would not blow at all. The resistor is the culprit that starts killing off speeds. It should be about $25 to $30 at an aftermarket store like autozone or advanced auto parts.
