Question about 2006 Ford Focus

Intermittent flat battery

I have a 2006 ford focus zetec connection. It's a 1.4l engine with a saloon body. Every couple of days when i go to start my car the battery is flat. Sometimes i can't even open the doors cos there is absolutely no power in the car. I got a new battery to try and solve the problem but the same thing is still happening. I used to be able to jump start it but now it takes ages to get going. The bloke out of the garage said that the battery is fine and the alternator is perfect and that it's just an annoying problem where something is draining the battery and it'll be hard to discover as it's an intermittent problem. Anyone any help on this? Thanks in advance. Sue

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. When it 1st happened i thought i could have left something on so i always double check everything is off now and stil have the same problem. I'm sure the battery and cables are ok as the man from the garage checked it. If it was a short then any ideas on how youd find out where it's coming from?

Aw this problem is a nightmare cos it just happens when you lest expect it even after the car has been running fine the previous day. The man out of the garage done an alternator test. It was going up and down from 11-13.

Thanks for your help jmgldsmth. My dad tried that and the light never went off but he only took out the fuses and didn't unscrew any bulbs or anything. I'll get him to try again when hes back from his hols. Hopefully this helps. Thanks.

Connect a testlight between the negative battery cable and the negative battery post make sure all doors are closed everything off... if you have a drain the lamp in the handle will light then: just pull fuses/remove relays, unscrew bulbs until the light goes out
P.S. your owner's manual or, a schematic will find the items on the problem circuit... light bulbs do not need to be lit to be draining your battery

Make sure that your battery cable connection are good and clean at both ends, make sure their tight, check to make sure you havnt left an interior light on, or park lights.
it could be a short somewhere, hope not
hope this helps, good luck

Shorts are a nightmare, they can be anywhere on the vehicle.

for example a hot and ground wire going to a switch, say the insulator on the ground wire gets worn from rubbing on the frame, it completes the circuit, drains the battery down and can make you crazy.

did the guy at the garage put the alternator on a testing machine and actully have it tested? It sounds to me like the alternator is not recharging the battery or the voltage regulator is bad.

I really doubt you have a short on this vehicle as new as it is, see if you can get your voltage regulator checked.

I hope this helps, sorry your having this problem.

I have a ford focus 56 model and sometimes it does not start no mileage working and when it does start sometimes dash lights stay on and the accelerator is slow like a flat spot.

I have a 2006 Focus and I am having the same problems. I have already replaced the battery and it hasn't helped. This is not a constant problem. Only every couple of days and then she runs fine. However I have noticed my gas peddle sticking when I first try to give it gas. Then it clears up and runs fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

zetecvacuumtz6.jpg user_offline.gif If it's equipped with the 2.0L SPI engine (eighth digit of the VIN is 'P'), the most common place for a vacuum leak on these engines, is from the PCV hose that runs from the valve cover to the back of the throttle body. Where it usually rots through is the elbow at the back where it connects to the throttle body. Hope this helps. The only place i could find any views is here. vacuum hose diagram - Focus Fanatics

If there is no decal under the hood somewhere, start with the belt around the crankshaft, and then go flats to flats, ribs to ribs. You may have to try a couple of times, but you'll get it.

Low voltage to solenoid. Try cleaning your bat cables ends inside where they attach to battery , if you're sure battery is good. terms should be shiny where they touch battery terms.
