I bought a used 00 olds intrigue..drives fine but 2 days later " service engine soon" comes on...79,000 miles....took it to auto zone codes are p0401 and p0300.. is this a common combo to a common...

OK well it sounds like the good clear the codes trick that many people do before they sell there car. Nobody likes buying a car with a check light on so they clear the code and there good for a little more time before the cars sensor picks up the issue again. With my experience with cars is if you have a check light on then you have a emissions system issue. Since you just bought the car do your major tune up. Major tuneup meaning spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap and ignition rotor, pcv, air filter, oil change, fuel filter, and if you really have time and money transmission filter/oil, coolant, thermostat and last a fuel injection cleaner bottle, this will give you a good sense that your starting fresh. And if you still have them codes coming up your gonna need to buy a service tech manual and a multi volt meter to eliminate guessing on what your car situation.

Transmission problems

First thing have the tranny control module checked for fault codes, if nothing shows up have the transmission fluid and filter changed and check the trans plug for water intrusion, if that fails to show anything you likely have a failed transmission and will need to have it rebuild. Expect to pay about $3000.00 to have it rebuilt.

Diagnostic code P1782

P1782 DODGE - 2/4-OD Pressure Switch Circuit Possible causes of this code are: - Low transmission fluid level (check level hot transmission only)
- Dirty transmission fluid (has transmission been serivced at least every 60,000 miles, fluid and new filter?)
- Faulty 2/4-OD Pressure Switch
- 2/4-OD Pressure switch poor electrical connection
- 2/4-OD Pressure switch circuit is open or shorted
P1782 DODGE Description The pressure 2/4-OD Pressure Switch is part of the pressure switch of the transmission. The pressure switch are located in the solenoid assembly. The switch provide input information to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The switch will inform to the TCM is pressure exist in a specified hydraulic circuit. the TCM uses this information to verified that the solenoids are working or not.

My 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue will start, but it won't move. Someone told me it was my transmission that went out, could it be this or something else? Problem happened at 180,000 miles. The mechanic told...

  • I don't know about reasonable. I don't know how they can assess something they have not seen with a price like that unless they are gunning for a full transmission replacement which is shady, in my opinion. Some other possibilities should have been voiced. Yes it could be the transmission needs replaced but there are some things to consider and check first.
  • Have you checked the transmission fluid level yet? Low fluid will butterfly the transmission.
  • Fluid over 50,000 miles needs replaces as well. Don't do this yet unless you get the transmission going or it may be a waste of money. If you get it going again and the miles call for it then flush the transmission fluid.
  • When is the last time you changed the transmission filter and gasket (sold as a kit)? A really clogged filter can inhibit your vehicle like that and make it not drive.
  • Open the hood and look at the transmission linkage. Now have someone get into the car and put their foot on the brake and drop it into gear. Do you see the linkage (on top of the transmission) move back and forth as they switch gears? If not then the linkage is hung up somewhere. If not then the linkage may be fine.

  • These are some things to look at before you go for the new transmission. I might suggest you get the opinion of a transmission shop first or at least the opinion of someone willing to do a little diagnosing first.

  • Hope this helps and good luck to you.
  • Thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrique with 180,000 miles on it. I have been told that my transmission is failing, but could last up to 2 years. Also, the panel lights stay on, but not the service engine...

I've had a similar problem with my 1999 Olds. It had 202,000 miles on it when I changed the transmission fluid, filter AND added some SEAFOAM transmission conditioner to it. The results were amazing. Not sure if it was the new fluid or the SEAFOAM. Car had 248,000 when I sold it and it was running fine. Have it serviced at a place that drains the fluid (drops the pan) AND changes the filter. Lots of places offer a "transmission flush" which is when they **** out the fluid thru the trans dipstick and add new fluid. This leaves gunk in the tranny plus they don't change the filter. Should cost about $125 for a good, complete service.
Not sure why the panel lights stay on. Did you check the dimmer switch on the dashlights to make sure it is not "ON"?
Good Luck. . .

2000 mercury mountianeer o/d light flashing

this OD light flashing means a fault has has been sensed by the transmission control module in the electronic transmission controls, to see what this fault might be have the transmission tested for electronic fault codes that are stored when this OD light flashes, many times this code will be for a transmission slipping issue, u will not fell this most times, if the transmission has more than 60,000 miles on it have the transmission fluid and filter changed and erase the codes, they may not come back
