the cooling fan will always come on when using the a/c,so it is not a fan problem, sounds like the pcm is not getting a signal to turn cooling fan on,could be coolant temp sensor.

SOURCE: HOW TO LET DOWN THE REAR SEAT IN A FORD FOCUS 2001

You have to reach in between the backrest and the bottom seat part and pull the bottom part up and forward. then you can lay the top part down. you might have to adjust the front seats forward a little for this to work.

Check for stuck throttle plate. Check pcv hose that goes to the intake manifold. They get soft and leak, check while running.

Ford Focus 2001 ZX3 Reving while driving and "!" comes on

If it is an automatic. then you most likley have a 2-4 servo piston that is worn in the transmission. It's not a big job but it does require pan & valvebody to be removed. I would not attempt this repair yourself.

2001 Ford Escape - Bucking Engine

You need to tow this car to a service station almost immediatly, depending on what exactly is wrong you could be further damaging the vehicle. With the description you give it could be a whole mess of things but i would start with your fuel system. Have your fuel pump looked at and your injectors as well. this could also be as simple as a bad batch of gas/ water in the gas but it would not really explain why the problem ocours at higher rpms like that. Hope this helps
