Question about 1989 Chevrolet Beretta

The car will start and idle but when i hit the gas it dies

    Okay. Idle air control valve or idle control sensor,or Mass air flow sensor.

Car starts but dies quickly even faster when hitting gas pedal


check you fuel pressure to see if you are getting plenty of fuel.could be a defective or worn out fuel pump.sounds like its not getting enough fuel and pump is only suppling enough to start it.hope this helps

93 dodge stealth dies when the clutch is pressed


have you tried adjusting the cylinder? there is a screw to adjust it by underneath the clutch pedal, had the same problem in my stealth

Car starts then dies


You've got a whole bunch of sensors on this car. You need to put an OBD1 scan tool on it and see what the codes are. OBD1 is very vague but may pin point you to the problem. Sounds like a bad Idle air valve/sensor. Could be a throtte positioning sen. More than likely cause in my educated guess, you've got a bad crank position sensor. If not that than its a cam sensor. good luck

If the choke is open very far it will start and run for a second then die because its getting to much gas or flooding itself.

Hi! I had the same problem with my 88 2.8 Ltr. Had dirty fuel Injectors. Put in fuel Inj. cleaner in gas tank, after a couple of days, runs like a dream,no more problems. Give it a try. Take care,Leo B. Flushme@shaw.ca
