Question about Chevrolet Cars & Trucks
My key was stuck in the ignition and after taking the steering column apart I was able to manually depress the solenoid to release the key. I have replaced the entire shifter with the new design and also replaced the wiring harness for it, but the key will still get stuck in the ignition. I have a good ground (black wire) and I get voltage to the green wire, but I do not get voltage to the yellow wire or the purple wire in Park, Neutral, or after the car has been turned off. I have continuity on the purple wire (from shifter to steering column), but I do not know where the yellow wire goes shoot that out. Is there a fuse or relay that is used in this circuit that I should check? Or do you think that it might be the ignition switch itself?
The key part may have worn teeth in it..may need a new key insert..

Testimonial: "If I replace that, then I will need a different key and I'll have to have separate keys for the ignition and the doors correct?"

SOURCE: engine wont crank
im looking at that circuit , on the start relay on your radiator support , red is always hot via fusible link , purple to solenoid as you say , orange/black wire should be hot in run or start mode , if it is not the fuse for that wire is PCM/ABS 10 amp located fuse block in driver door jam , it does go through the nuetral saftey switch , the yellow wire going to the PCM must ground that relay to activate start mode . last note there is a PCM/CRANK fuse in the driver door jam also , 10 amp , if all this is good i would like to hear more . 1 more note about the nuetral saftey switch is the pink wire going in and the orange/black wire coming out should have continuity in park and nuetral ....let us know thanks

while in park, press harder up past park and it will disengage. Otherwise there is a pin on the ignition you can press and remove the entire ignition. You call also lightly tap gently around igniton piece to loose the pins inside that hold the key.

when it wont start, turn your headlights on, see if they work if they dont, find out why. When it wont start, take a wire from the positive battery terminal and touch it to the small post on the starter solenoid, it should crank. If it now cranks, theres a problem between the ign switch and the starter solenoid.
