It sounds like your carburetor is flooding, check to see if the choke is set too tight.
to do this, when the engine is cold, remove the air cleaner assembly, push the gas pedal one time to the floor. in the carburetor throat is a flap, this flap closes as engine cools so the engine receives more fuel for cold weather starts, the flap is at the top of the carb. this flap should have about a 1/8" gap between the throat wall and the flap when it is fully closed, if if is completly closed it will give the engine to much fuel and cause it to flood. if you need to adjust just follow the linkage that the flap is attached to, and it will lead you to the choke housing, this is where you can adjust it.
once this is done start the engine and let it warm up, as it warms up this choke flap should open completly up in a vertical position.
if it doesnt, then you probably have lost power to the choke housing or your heat tube that comes from the exhaust manifold to the choke housing is bent, off or missing. most likely yours will be electric.
i hope this helps, good luck

The problem could be in the ignition switch itself.

My 2006 chevy malibu Maxx runs great, but about once a week starts hard.

The first test will be to see which cyl the missfire is coming from. When you have isolated the cyl first rem the plug and swop it out with a new one.If the problem is still there the inj of that cyl must be removed and tested for over fueling. If the missfire cant be isolated to a specific cyl you can check the water temp sensor which if faulty will cause the injection system to over fuel under certain conditions.

1999 Malibu hard start in hot weather, after it starts runs great lots of power. starts when cold in cooler weather.V6 3.1 engine. have gas at rail. changed spark plugs and wires, IAT and ECT sensors also...

this is most likely a fuel vapor issue.

fuel boils in the fuel rail causing a hard start after a 'hot soak'.

the fix is to replace the fuel pressure regulator and the pcm. good- day !!

I started my Malibu in really cold weather. I smelled gas and opened the hood. Gas was running out from somewhere but it was night and i ccouldn't see where thee gas waas running from.A week later I...

Gas would leak out of a cold, hard, rubber fuel line. When the car warms up, the rubber line swells and seals itself up until it gets cold and leaks`again. Find that leaky fuel line asap or you're risking an engine compartment fire every time your car is started, when it's cold out.

I'VE PUT A NEW BATTERY IN MY MALIBU BUT IT DIES EVERY 3-4 DAYS? I HAVEN'T YET CHECKED THE ALTERNATOR TO SEE IF IT'S THE PROBLEM.

Assuming battery cables and connectors are clean and tight, a failing battery is almost always due to a bad alternator. Other less likely causes are:
  • Bad starter~will start car when cold but not hot
  • Short circuit~takes 1-3 days to drain a fully charged battery depending on where the short is
Bring the car to one of the major chain Auto Parts stores that feature free testing. Most will do a complimentary check of the alternator. A quick check you can do yourself is to start the car, turn on the headlights and AC and very carefully, while the car is running, disconnect the negative battery cable and keep it away from the frame. If the car stalls while the cable is disconnected, you've isolated the problem and need to change the alternator.

Hi, My 93 corolla starts hard in the cold weather. Other than that, runs great. I have changed the plugs, wires, pvc, and fuel pump. Any thoughts?

When it is cold, gasoline evaporates less and this cause it to be more difficult to burn due to the fact that it is burnt when it is evaporated,
in order to overcome the lack of gasoline evaporation problem, you can spray ether into the engine which would evaporate quickly and help the engine start. Besides this, you can also to prevent having oil too thick which wouldn't circulate properly by using thin synthetic oils. You should also try to maintain the car isolated from cold as much as possible, but by using the two last mentioned methods you would experience much less problems at the time of staring the car in cold weather.
