I have a 98 Saturn sc2 5-speed transmission that will not go into gear an I have already replace the shifting bushing when I first got the car don't know what else could be causing the problem clutch is...

Hi,just food for falt, undo the gear selector linkidge from the gearbox then have some one depress the clutch you try to select the gears from the gearbox,if you can select all the gears the problem is the linkidge if not the problem will be internal,
(which could be a selector in the gearbox its self.
which ever one it is best of luck.

Adjust clutch in pt cruiser

It happened to me, I thought my case it was the gear shift selector bushes. too much play, meaning, under bonnet/hood look down past the battery to see where gear select cable meets the gearbox bell housing, the rubber inside the joint wears out, it happens at both ends of the gear select cable, not a big expensive job. But it can make gearshift misses or failure to engage or release. I repeat...NOT EXPENSIVE ! also, check fluid levels and check for leaks. if not these.... then you are in clutch main assembly territory...good luck. Red

My shift control cable on 99 pontiac grand prix broke

Hello, and sorry for your fix, but depending wheee the break is at it may involve getting under your vehicle to see where the linkage ties to. It might just be a small job that you remove the shift mechanism and find it under the console area but if the linkage is a long piece it may require you to follow it down to the tranny. Sometimes this might night even evolve the linkage because it's metal and it might just be a plastic part on the shift lever you may want to see the condition on those pesky plastic parts. Plastic gets brittle and does fray so trouble shoot that as well. Hope this helps. GE

I have a problem with my shift gears, in order for me to drive (D) I have to put in on 1 or 2, to reverse (R) I have to put in on (D) drive, to park (P) I have to put it on reverse (R). Tell me what's

sounds like the cable from the gear stick to the gearbox selector switch has been put on wrong ,put the car into reverse so that the reverse light is on , turn the ignition off and find the gear selector on the gearbox , pop the end of the cable off it then put the gearstick into the "R" position and refit the end of the cable back onto the selector switch , hope this helps

Thinks its in Drive all the time, will not start... used to be abled to shift back and forth and it would start.. now it doesnt... cut the neutral safety switch wired them together thought I'd out smart...

check gear shift cable adjustment correct. loosen cable securing bolts at gearbox, make sure gearbox is in park. put gear selector lever in park and re tighten bolts at g/box. if this does not solve the problem, multi function switch on g/box could be faulty.

My gear selector is locked up. I can manually press a lever to unlock it and can then shift into gear. Once I get the gear selector unlocked, it works just fine.

Hi it sounds like the problem is with the clutch unless you vehicle is auto if its auto box then the chances are this needs replacing if you have manual gearbox then i would get the clutch replaced or looked at.
If the clutch is ok then it could be that the gear selector inside the gearbox is worn and needs replacing if this is the case then it would be cheaper to get a reconditioned gearbox as repairing it would cost about the same as a recon.
If you need further assistance then let me know ok
