Question about 1999 Toyota Avalon

''Check Engine'' Light won't turn off; ''Trac-Off'' light turned on,

And will not shut off.

''CE'' light first came on last week, took to mechanic, he replaced o2 Sensor and wrote: ''renew o2 Sensor bank, 2 sensor 1-thread repaid''

''CE'' light will turn off at mechanics, but come on again down the road; now the ''T-O'' light is on as well (incidently, dash lamp trouble light will also not turn off and all bulbs have been replaced and are working).

Thanks, Eric H.

Thanks for your suggestion; a little miffed as to what "pump brakes 10 times" has to do with a disconnected battery? But then, I don't understand what "Trac" means to begin with . . . Can you explain briefly?

Thanks for suggestions; I'm going through them and seeing which one/s work; will post when it's solved.

Thank you, Louie_3006, I did just what you said (even pumped the brakes! which I still don't understand the connection, but then, I'm not a mechanic; a musician): the lights cleared out and all is well. I still have the car light issue, but that was existent; I'm going to just go back, recheck all the bulbs and see if that helps. Best wishes to all and thanks to all.

You need the mechanic to turn off these signals since you have scanned and fix the problems.

Hello, I would unhook the battery cables for 30 minutes and pump the brakes about ten times and then rehook the battery cables. This is the most cost effective way to do this. If you want it professionally done I would take it to the dealership and they can clear the codes for. I hope this helps.

What are codes P0133 & P1134, for a 2005 Buick Lacrosse 3.8L V6 with 94,000 miles.

i have replaced an O2 sensor and had similar failure after 1500 miles.
I removed it, chkd it, reinstalled it and it ran fine.
P0133 is related to slow response of O2 sensor. P1134 is mfg specific so google that for ur car.

Numerous Questions

One suggestion I have is that each of the new type of engine's have an O2 sensor which is part of the exhaust. This is used by the computer to measure the amount of O2 in the exhaust gasses in the exhaust.

Drive and idle is normal but suddenly check engine, pcs and vsc light come up. mechanic have checked. they said this car have few code. p0420, p0430, c1734, b2090, c1a40

ok lets do this in order
P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) an o2 sensor bad usually before the Cat converter P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) same thing but the sensor after the cat converter the c1734 people will say you need to replace a bad BCM, but don't,, once the O2 sensor problem is addressed , that code will clear , it has to do with the remote start b2090 has to do with power doors ,, this will drop off too once the system is rest , same with the last one you listed, If I was you I'd have the 2 O2 sensors checked, replace the bad one, or both, and have the mechanic clear all the codes, then recheck them

Check engine light came on though the car runs fine. Mechanic said the code was p0153. He reset it and had me drive it around 'till it came on again. Came on two weeks later.

Why would a mechanic tell you to drive a vehicle
with an O2 Sensor Code, and why clear the code?

Plain stupid

PO153-O2 Sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1) slow response

Just buy the sensor and replace yourself.

It is slow because it is worn out, most likely over
100,000 miles on it

Replace both front sensors ,if you have 2,the ones

98 jeep grandcherokee code PO138, PO141 & PO463

P0138 - O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 2

The rear heated oxygen sensor (or sensor 2), after three way catalyst (manifold), monitors the oxygen level in the exhaust gas on each bank. Even if switching characteristics of the heated oxygen sensor 1 are shifted, the air-fuel ratio is controlled to stoichiometric, by the signal from the heated oxygen sensor 2. This sensor is made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions. Under normal conditions the heated oxygen sensor 2 is not used for engine control operation.

- Harness or connectors (The sensor circuit is open or shorted)
- Rear heated oxygen sensor (Bank 1) may be faulty

Replacing the O2 Sensor 2 usually takes care of the problem

P0141 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 2

- Harness or connectors (The sensor circuit is open or shorted)
- Rear heated oxygen sensor (Bank 1) may be faulty

Replacing the O2 Sensor 2 usually takes care of the problem

P0463 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

The fuel level sensor is mounted in the fuel level sensor unit. The sensor detects a fuel level in the fuel tank and transmits a signal to the ECM or PCM, It consists of two parts, one is mechanical float and the other side is variable resistor. Fuel level sensor output voltage changes depending on the movement of the fuel mechanical float.

- Fuel level sensor circuit harness or connectors is open or shorted
- Fuel level sensor may be faulty

Replaced fuel level sensor.
