You won't get it flash a code, it must be read by a scanner. Autozone, will scan it for you for free.

1997 mercury sable no odt on obd but engine light is still On!! What should i do??

There are no computers used to work on any vehicle

There are no codes that tell you what is wrong or to
replace anything

You use the codes along with factory manuals to learn the
system your working on & follow trouble charts until you have
something to component test

You didn't do any of that, you don't know the system, the testing required
to find a problem

Need a repair shop

MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS ON. WHEN I FIRST START IT IS SOLID, AFTER DRIVING A FEW IT FLASHS. WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS CAN BE

A flashing check engine light usually indicates an engine misfire it flashes to let you know that the problem is severe enough that you could possibly damage the catalytic converter.

You best bet is to scan the computer and find out what codes are present.

otherwise if it is running ruff you can do the basics like check for spark to each plug or check the plugs to see if they are fouled, carbon tracked, or worn out.

Check engine light has been on since we bought the car - shop said common problem with dust getting into sensor...yesterday car started acting like there was maybe fuel not getting to engine at times and...

No need to guess. Take the vehicle to one of the Major auto parts stores like Auto Zone and ask them to connect their scanner to it and identify the fault code. That will tell you what needs to be replaced. As far as dust getting into a sensor, that's a new one and original. Definitely find another shop to work on your vehicle in the future as it doesn't sound like those guys know what a wrench is.

Need to check codes on my 2000 mercury sable, I don't have a diagnostic tool. How can I check code? can I jump pins to get flashing light codes?

No, you can't.obd2 requires a code reader to read the codes and you can't use the check engine light anymore. It is usually cheaper to buy one at walmart then to get someone to hook theirs up,check your options, you might want to buy one.

Car shuttering an and check engine light flashes

Get a hold af a code reader ( OBD2 ), and read the codes. The car is telling you something. Let me know what it says, and I can help you better. You can borrow one from some auto parts stores, like AutoZone, or get a cheap one for $35.

My 1997 Dodge mini van will not start. When I do

The flashing check engine light would mean that the engine is misfiring, If you have a scanner, use it on the diagnostic port of the engine to check for the error code to get which cylinder is misfiring and if there are other errors that needs to be checked.

Airbag dashboard light keeps blinking. In 1997 Ford Thunderbird.

The air bag computer will have to be scanned and the code read to know what the fault the computer detects. The problem will have to be repaired for the light to shut off. Keep in mind, when the air bag light is illuminated the air bag system is deactivated. Meaning, in the event of a collision the bags won't deploy.

2002 mercury sable DOHC check engine light

A flashing light indicates that the engine is misfiring enough to damage the catalytic converter, this needs attention ASAP, otherwise after the misfiring is repaired, you will be buying a new catalytic converter, the damage may have already been done. as for the p1633 has the battery run low and you had to jump it off, or recharge the battery?

Mercury sable 2001 duratec engine DOHC I get check engine light and diagnostic code PO401". Any suggestions?

Barring any vacuum leaks, P0401 is indicative of a bad EGR valve. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.
