Question about 1997 Mercury Tracer
Plugs are fine. New battery. New alternator. Can't find any lose grounds. Acts like it wants to start but won't. Was running fine then went out one morning and wouldn't start. This was 2 weeks after the alternator was replaced. The first thing I did was replace the battery as upon testing it was bad.
Check fuel pressure. From what your explaining that is what it sounds like. Should be around 30psi and hold. Very common problem for any car that is parked overnight or filled up with gas and then it doesnt start the next day.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 mercury
body controll module [BCM]or power controll module[PCM],witch ever one feeds the instrument cluster,HAVE BOTH CHECKED FOR DEFAULT TROUBLE CODES, or check electrical harness all the way through for grounded wires that may be causing a short & not blowing fuses,I WOULD CHECK BOTH THE COMPUTERS [BCM] & [PCM] FIRST,MOST ARE FED BY [PCM] TO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER,which controlls the battery light to alternator.

check the fuel pump relay! It sounds like it is one of your relays. If it was an electrical or sensor problem, the check engine light would be on.

Had the same problem, car was misfiring on cylinder 3 and 4. replaced wires, plugs, and ignition coil. still misfired on the same cynlinders. turned out the main engine wiring harness plug in was coming loose. spent well over $150 on the unneccesary repairs and ultimately fixed the problem wit a $3 bag of wire ties to hold the plug in...
