2001 grand prix gt freaking out!

Ok, so I was driving around the other day, I had been doing a lot of driving that day, but anyway. I stopped at a stop sign and prepared to make a right turn..my 2001 grand prix gt with under 50k miles stalled and made a super loud grinding noise. I put the car into park and then drive, and continued to make the turn, and parked on the side of the road. After I had put the car into park it acted fine, but it's still got me really freaked out. I am about 3k over when I was supposed to get an oil change (have appointment for friday), not sure if this has anything to do with it??

Ok, I'll go check the oil level now.. I had put a quart of oil in it the other day, just until I could get it changed...

Ok, yeah, it's up above the first dot...

I'm terrible with cars so I don't really know where it should be at, but the low oil light has come on twice, and I've just poured a quart of oil in each time, and have kept putting off getting it changed..

    Geeze!

Well the noise started when the car stalled, I don't really think it had anything to do with the turn, although, I definitely could be wrong. The car would not go unless I put it in park, by putting it in park and then back into drive it allowed me to make the turn and park. The grinding noise happened until I put it in park. And ok, the motor mounts? I will mention that to the shop for sure. Thanks!

When you put the trans in park, then back into drive, Is the turning directly corresponding with the noise? Putting it in park should have nothing to dowith the turn. What happens if you don't put it in park. Is the trans still in drive if you followed through with the turn? Have your motor mounts checked. a bad motor mount will allow unintentional partial gear shifting and placing in park reset everything. You may be hearing the parking Pawl in the trans. good luck.

Hello and yes this is a major noise. I would check your oil now right before you ever start the oil again. This noise may have been your engine locking up from really low oil levels and excessive heat from a lot of driving. If this is fine contact me again and we will address more problems if their is more. Thank You.

What causes the brake pedal pulsates occasionally when stopping the car.The car is a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and somtimes(about four times a day the brake will have a pulsating feel in the pedal along...

When you put your wheels on , most people do not realize that the wheels need to be torqued down. A lot of mechanics just use there air gun or brute force to put a wheel on a disc brake. If the bolts are over tightened or unevenly tightened the disc will warp. That is what is causing the pulsing when you brake. The only way to fix the pulse is to put on a new disc and torque the wheel correctly. Having the disc turned will only amplify the problem. You need to replace the warped disc with a new one.

2001 Grand Prix with fuel pump problem.

i would be inclined to try the crank sensor first ,renew it ,but this is one of them jobs where a fellow mechanic is no doubt getting a earfull from a female ,i pity him but this sort of problem can be very testing to say the least as it always starts when hes around ,i know the feeling well of this sort of fault and the associated problems involved where if you get it right first time your a god and if you get it wrong ,well you can imagine. If only it would do it when hes driving it ,so what i do is to give the customer my escort diesel and i use their for a few days .

2001 grand prix se turn on fan and loose head lights

This is your ignition wireing harness/switch. I have a 1999 grand prix GT that did the same thing. After a lot of reserch I found that this is the problem. Its not that hard to replace, and I was able to get it at a local auto parts store. I think if i remember correctly it was between $100 and $150.
