Question about 1999 Isuzu Rodeo
Posted by Jack Isuzu on May 20, 2009
1999 Rodeo LS, V6 3.2, 5spd,4WD - I seem to have a similar or same issue. Check Engine light is on, getting error code indicating EGR problem. I have replaced the EGR valve ($120), PCV valve ($6), Mass Airflow Sensor ($120), run fuel injector cleaner and fuel system treatment through all in the last month. Problem is intermittent but becoming more frequent and now the engine is beginning to hesitate on acceleration. Took my vehicle into a local Pep Boys shop. They proposed replacing the Mass Air Flow Sensor, Idle Air Control sensor, and 2 - O2 sensors for $1242. I decided to buy the parts myself for around $400. I've replaced the Mass Airflow with no change in symptoms. I'm suspicious the shop is just shooting in the dark and don't really know what the problem is.
Is a very slight leak oil leak in the intake manifold more likely to be the issue, or can it be a combination of all these items?
To me if the engine will not idel and stall once you have stopped, that points to an IAC (Idle Air Control sensor) which is located on your throttle body. The part is very easy to get to and changes out pretty quickly. Hope this helps. Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa!

Peppy boys are fairly good at oil changes. Go back to the egr valve and clean out the passageways that go to it.If they are blocked, changing the valve will do very little. Also check that no debris has gotten into the new valve. Intakes generally don't leak oil because no oil is in an intake. But, check it for air leaks by spraying parting line with carb cleaner while running. If you see a change in idle speed you have a vacuum leak there.Personally though I'd do the egr before anything else. (I'm wrong sometimes, but I'm not able to be there to give it a good check out (a bit frustrating at times)
