Heater not achieving proper temp. on drivers side

Drivers side heat not reaching desired temperature. Air flow is good, but the temperature is just barely warm. There is also a slight smell of, I assume coolant being evaporated once the car reach's temperature, with the heat on high. Passenger side works fine.

If youre smelling antifreeze then its a sign that the heater core may be leaking..

SOURCE: drivers side heated seat does not work

sounds like the wiring either in the seat or from the switch is faulty altho sometimes the element that warms the seats up breaks down/wares out

Car won't switch from AC mode to Heater


first check to see if the blend door motor is working if it is then the temp module may be the culprit , also check the heater hoses to see if they are hot on both side the inlet and the outlet you can do this by feeling them . let the car heat up to operating temperature then feel both hoses if one is cold and the other on is hot this indicates a flow problem , if this is the problem check the temperature of the engine , if the engine does not reach operating temp then replace the thermostat and then recheck engine temp , check the flow of the heater core , you can do this by pulling the hoses off and use a garden hose to push water through the heater core " do not turn the hose on high "

The heater core may be plugged up so that no coolant flows, thus no heat at all.

Caravan does't reach operating temperature


No one ever said new means good. Try another thermostat. Make sure it is the recommended temp for the vehicle. I would spend the extra money to buy a dealer thermostat. What controls temp is restriction of flow thru the system until a set temperature is reached and the thermostat opens. Has to be a thermostat.

I put a brand new heater core, radiator, water pump an thermastat but it still takes forever to blow heat out an then it doesn't get that hot.. what's the problem? my vehicle is a 1995 jeep wrangler 2.5 4...


Could be the heater bypass valve is stuck or the heater core is blocked.
I'd check the heater core first.You may have trapped air in the cooling system or the heater core may be partially plugged up. Engine coolant is delivered to the heater core through two heater hoses. With the engine idling at normal operating temperature, set the temperature control knob in the full hot position, the mode control switch knob in the floor heat position, and the blower motor switch knob in the highest speed position. Using a test thermometer, check the temperature of the air being discharged at the HVAC housing floor outlets.

Ambient Air Temperature 15.5° C (60° F) 21.1° C (70° F) 26.6° C (80° F) 32.2° C (90° F)
Minimum Air Temperature at Floor Outlet 52.2° C (126° F) 56.1° C (133° F) 59.4° C (139° F) 62.2° C (144° F)
If the floor outlet air temperature is too low, Both of the heater hoses should be hot to the touch. The coolant return heater hose should be slightly cooler than the coolant supply heater hose. If the return hose is much cooler than the supply hose, locate and repair the engine coolant flow obstruction in the cooling system.
OBSTRUCTED COOLANT FLOW
Possible locations or causes of obstructed coolant flow: Pinched or kinked heater hoses. Improper heater hose routing. Plugged heater hoses or supply and return ports at the cooling system connections. A plugged heater core. If proper coolant flow through the cooling system is verified, and heater outlet air temperature is still low, a mechanical problem may exist.
MECHANICAL PROBLEMS
Possible locations or causes of insufficient heat: An obstructed cowl air intake. Obstructed heater system outlets. A blend door not functioning properly.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
If the heater outlet air temperature cannot be adjusted with the temperature control knob on the A/C Heater control panel, the following could require service: The A/C Heater control. The blend door actuator.

The heating system provides heating, ventilation and defrosting for the windshield and side windows. The heater core is a heat exchanger supplied with coolant from the engine cooling system. Temperature is controlled by the temperature valve which moves an air door that directs air flow through the heater core for more heat or bypasses the heater core for less heat. Vacuum actuators control the mode doors which direct air flow to the outlet ducts. The mode selector on the control panel directs engine vacuum to the actuators. The position of the mode doors determines whether air flows from the floor, panel, defrost or panel and defrost ducts (bi-level mode).

Can not find heater control valve 2000 expedition


what year? for 2000, there are no control valves. It mixes a/c air with heater core air to blend the right temp.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Heating/Defrosting The heating and defrosting system has the following features:
  • Controls the temperature and, during A/C operation, reduces the relative humidity of the air inside the vehicle.
  • Delivers heated or cooled air to maintain the vehicle interior temperature and comfort level.
  • Controls the A/C blower motor speed.
  • Cooling or heating can be adjusted to maintain the desired temperature.
  • Uses a reheat method to provide conditioned air to the passenger compartment.
  • The blower motor draws outside air through the A/C recirculating air duct, except for MAX A/C cooling, when recirculated air is used.
  • All airflow from the blower motor passes through the A/C evaporator core.
  • The temperature is then regulated by reheating a portion of the air and blending it with the remaining cool air to the desired temperature.
  • The temperature blending is controlled by the temperature blend door, which regulates the amount of air that flows through and around the heater core, where it is then mixed and distributed.

sounds like the drivers temp door actuator is not working should be located on the drivers side of the air box down by the gas pedal or center dash area

Air conditioning


On a w body car with a single temp adjustment control (not a dual zone) your problem should be a low refrigerant charge. Due to the design of this evaporator, a low refrigerant charge will cause the furthest areas from the inlet and outlet hoses (the drivers side) to not remove the heat from the incoming air. This allows the air on the drivers side to be outside temp but refrigerated on the passenger side. In cars with Dual Zone controls you must not only verify the refrigerant charge level, but also check the mode doors which control the air flow and regulate the temp. To check the refrigerant level do not use pressure gauges alone. Verify a proper charge level by checking the temperature of the two aluminum lines going in to the firewall of the vehicle. With the A/C set to high the temperatures should be within 5 degrees of each other. If not, then there is a charge issue. I hope this helps
