Ok. To start with check to make sure all the pulleys, idlers and equip is all there If this car is 1998 Ford Escort with 2.0 L. not ZX2 you should have 6 pulleys. You will need some metric wrenches to move the tensioner pulley. Starting at the bottom this should be the Crank shaft the belt runs on the outside of the pulley . Next to the right should be an A/C and the belt runs on the outside of this pulley next is the idler the belt runs on the inside of this one. top most pulley should be the Power steering the belt runs on the outside of this pulley and goes over to the alternator outside of this one also last is the Tensioner assembly the belt runs on the inside of this one. Now is when you need the metric wrench some are 15mm some are 16mm. You have to move the tensioner pulling to the outside to release the tension and slip the belt on. It may be easier to slip the belt off the power steering and behind the tensioner pulley then release the tensioner and have some one else slip the belt on. cannot get it back on car - sbfd00001.png I Found a picture up it not the right way up the CS is the crankshaft and it's on the bottom picture should be turn 90 degrees to the left.

2004 Nissan Altima 3.5L BATTERY LIGHT went on during 15 minute drive. Next day car "died" while idling after a 20 minute drive. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT & BATTERY LIGHT on prior to full electrical failure.

Start with checking the alternator voltage with a multimeter. With the car off check the voltage in the battery which should be holding 12v charged less if flat of course then start the car and test the battery again. If the alternator is good you should be getting a reading of 14 to 14.5 v if it's the alternator it'll A) not put any charge into the battery or B) be a very low voltage being anything under 13.5 v

I have a 2000 VW Beetle - the battery light came on this morning will driving to work (5 minute drive) and by the the time I got to work, the power steering wasn't working. Any ideas?

Sounds like the serpintine belt that turns your power steering pump has broken or came off of the pulley.

You should see the problem when you open the hood.

My belts have broken. Car overheated, lost power steering, and battery light illuminated. What is wrong with my car? previous website listed above shows a serpentine belt tensioner, does this apply to my...

It looks like you may have 2 serpentine belts, but when one fails it almost always gets tangled into the any other belts and they all end up coming off, all of the problems u listed are driven off your belts, replace the belts and hope that the overheat didn't cause any damage to the engine. And yes you have what are called serpintine belts and there is a tensioner for each..

Lost power steering and brakes

I'd say you broke a serpintine belt if you lost them both at the same time. Check your belts and see if you're missing one... You should have breaks and steering, just manual... hard to steer and brake...
