SOURCE: kia sportage 2000 oil like in last spark plug hole

if in the spark plug hole, then problem could be the valve cover oil seal, that seals the valve cover to the engine, being around 10 years old, this could be the result of the rubber seal hardening up . should not be hard or costly to replace,

however, if you are referring to you taking the plug out and there is oil in the hole, this could be another matter entirely

SOURCE: Can oil in spark plug

No it wont hurt if you took out spark plug and oil went in the combustion chamber.just like you said it blew smoke itll burn out but itll take a while(10 minutes idling and 2 minutes if you drive it) Its not going damage anything or do any long term damage. But here the thing is the spark plug boot oil soak, That will be damage , and if you decide to reuse it eventually it will misfire and arch to ground,

What is wrong with my 1996 geo tracker ,it will not start in damp or rain days

but skipped spark plugs. (air and fuel filter ) finish the 60k mile tuneup?????
and are the tips, white, black, oil soaked, green , gas soaked?
shoe drops. but runs perfect other wise

if the 16v engine, says that on top, of valve cover
it has wells spark wells are they full of oil, that is the 60k tuneup
step that calls out valve lash checks and new gasket there.'
if they fill with water or oil , that will make starting hard.
there are 50 more ways, we dont guess, the tests and tools are easy and cheap.
got tools?

hard starts, ? basics.
  • low battery (for 3 reasons) = low spark energy.
  • low compression, skipping the 60k means the cam belt slipped.
  • bad spark , not doing a full 60k tuneup.
  • bad fueling. (too little or too much) "complex set of tests but scan it first"
  • EGR sticking open. clean it.
  • melted cat. (not your's, as it runs perfect otherwise)
  • lots more, i stop.

here is the 60k line up

1998 toyota corolla hard to start when hot

hot soak ,no starts 101:
which engine?, cant guess that. say it. please."name /size"
is it flooding or starving
hard to start , so that is easy you are parked, and makes diagnosis so easy, (no need to move)
you skipped the fuel filter:?
why not use a scan tool now.?
you crank for 5 seconds, see P03xx errors. DTC'
THE ECU REPORTS ALL CMP AND CKP SENSOR ERRORS!
bingo now you have your answer , finding this, scan tool free is hard hard work. am i to tell you that hard way, sure.
1:test spark on all cylinders ,same way 100 years, google it.
2: ok sparks good, i check all spark plug tips, for wet and dry or soaked in fuel.
3: i see dry, , i use test fuel (same way for 100 years,)
run on test fuel (my Model a ford, same way works.....)
4:; ah one plug is soaking , ah leaking injector
5:ah, all plugs wet, (too high fuel pressure, ECT stuck cold
if all are wet, I stop, there are lots of tests for this.(bulleted below)

  • fuel pressure (KEYON, cranking and running and W.O.T.)
  • injector leak down tests. all of em;'
  • injector balance test (ALL)
  • Fuelpump regulator 4 tests

all this perplexing, get your ASE mechanic in the loop.

common problem for dodge 4 cylinders...
never lower the oil level unless its real high on the dipstick..
you have the replace the spark plug guide seal.... it seals it from oil in the valve cover going into the spark plug guide and killing the spark... yes oil goes past the threads on the plug....

just did the valve cover on my 94 jaguar... has the same setup valve cover design

2001 volvo s40 cyl 2 misfire how do i repair?

Do a Compression Test, do a VISUAL INSPECTION of the Spark Plugs. If there is a COLOR DIFFERENCE and / or the Spark plugs on Cylinder 1 and 2 are CLEAN. you have a blown head gasket.

I have done so many of these 1.9 liter Turbo's with this same Problem that I can no longer count...

Flooding 94 V6 nissan will not start now, was starting and running ruff?

i would start by replacing the temp sensor and cleaning the plugs the flooding is from the temp sensor when they go out usually fuel just keeps dumping in the cylinders and it most likely wont start because of the plugs being soaked when plugs get soaked they get a black glaze on them and they wont fire untill cleaned

Oil in spark plugs

If you saw fresh oil, you were looking at valve cover gasket-seals leaking into the spark plug tubes.

Check engine light on and running ruff and idles erratically

If you know anyone that can hook up to the computer and read the codes...that would be a good place to start.

Sometimes, if they're not too busy, Autozone will tell you what the codes are....It's worth a shot.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Hi I have a 2001 Xterra, Manual, 213,000, runs rough at random

If your mechanic changed the spark plugs. Make sure he did a few things.

First make sure he used NGK plugs. I have seen other make plugs cause running conditions.

The other thing is make sure plug number 6 was changed. I can not tell you how many times I have seen shops leave that one cause it's to hard. That also can give you the ruff condition.

Last but not least, if the distributor cap and rotor and wires were not replaced, it may be possible that you could have a spark issue being loss. If you notice it more when conditions are wet, then it has to be related to those items.

Thanks Jay!

Oil on front spark plugs

I just had this problem with my 2002 Ford explorer. I took it to the shop and it was the valve cover gasket. This was causing some slippage and white smoke from exhaust.
