My 2005 Nissan Altima will not turn over. It smells of gas & the spark plugs are wet. After it has been dried, it will start most of the time.

Sounds like a leaking pressure regulator, since one bad injector would only flood one cylinder.
Is it always getting spark to the plugs ? Keep in mind, once the plugs are fuel fouled they are easily fouled again.

Gas around plugs causing car to flood and die out

there are a couple common causes for this problem. a defective temp sensor can cause the ECU to believe that the engine is still cold thus providing extra fuel much like the choke on carberated vehickles. Throttle position sensor could possibly be sending wrong signal to the ECU. O2 sensor can become blocked with carbon thus producing wrong fuel to air mixture but most times the defective 02 sensor will reveal itself much sooner.

The car is hard to start

Its your engine management system or possibly emission control i.e. the lambda sensor or oxygen sensor for the catalyst or the catalyst itself. Trying to start a car with a catalytic converter can flood the cat with fuel if it won't start for a while. The effect of this is that when the car finally starts the cat will fry and possibly break up as it is only a ceramic honeycomb inside. suggest you get it checked out.
