Changing Powerstroke injectors

A key step most DIY'ers forget when changing the injectors is to remove the UVC (under valve cover) oil drain plugs. These plugs drain the excess oil from the oil passage so it doesn't leak into the cylinder and cause hydro lock (clyinders full of fluid) and damage pistons/rods. To do this you remove the valve covers and then the gasket as well as the injector harnesses. The 2 drain plugs are located directly underneath the 2 wiring harnesses (front and rear). This requires an allen wrench (4.5mm I believe) and do not torq when tightning). You must remove both to allow maximum oil drainage.

Cleaning injectors on 4.9 ford inline six

You can have them professionally cleaned, but I have made a wiring harness with an injector plug from old harness, sealed pushbutton switch, and battery clips. Remove injectors, one at a time hook up and breifly energise injector and use carb cleaner to back flush injector. This will clean the screen filter and usually restore normal operation. CAUTION carb cleaner spray is flammable so all wiring and switch must be no sparks.

How to install a fuel injector on a 2002 jeep liberty 3.7

so that mean the old one is all ready removed.?
or did you mean all steps in the fsm for INJECTOR.
the steps are the same on all EFI fuel rail injectors.
you could google that or you tube it or read the FSM.

hide call keys from step 2 on, or very bad things can happen.
(wife or kids no aware of danger)
ill just cover the (basics)
1: per FSM , depressurize the system, in can be at 60PSI
parked. so avoid fuel in eyes, or a fire. we do that first.
gain access to rail under failure. (RUF) (no barking)
2: remove injector X , wire plug. (failing)
3: then detach the injector rail clamps the both rails off as one....
injector are all now loose, to pull off.
4: add new seals to new injector, and install in reverse order.

that's it, only the gain access , varies,... mostly.

last depressure steps:
run engine,
remove fuel pump relay, engine stalls. key off, hide keys

next tje FSM words (just the OFF section)

  1. Remove fuel tank filler tube cap.
  2. Perform Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure.
  3. Remove negative battery cable at battery.
  4. Remove air duct at throttle body air box.
  5. Remove air box at throttle body.
  6. Disconnect fuel line latch clip and fuel line at fuel rail. A special tool will be necessary for fuel line disconnection.
  7. Remove necessary vacuum lines at throttle body.
  8. Disconnect electrical connectors at all 6 fuel injectors. Push red colored slider away from injector. While pushing slider, depress tab and remove connector from injector. The factory fuel injection wiring harness is numerically tagged (INJ 1, INJ 2, etc.) for injector position identification. If harness is not tagged, note wiring location before removal.
  9. Disconnect electrical connectors at throttle body sensors.
  10. Remove 6 ignition coils.
  11. Remove 4 fuel rail mounting bolts.
  12. Gently rock and pull left side of fuel rail until fuel injectors just start to clear machined holes in cylinder head. Gently rock and pull right side of rail until injectors just start to clear cylinder head holes. Repeat this procedure (left/right) until all injectors have cleared cylinder head holes.
  13. Remove fuel rail (with injectors attached) from engine.
end expert.
login and read all steps. that be best , then ask questions?

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Removing injectors from fuel rail 84245032.gif
Fig. 2: Make sure injectors rotate freely in cylinder head 84245033.gif
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove intake air hose between throttle body and intercooler.
  3. Remove accelerator cable.
  4. Unclamp PCV and fuel return hoses from deliver pipe.
  5. Unclamp injector wiring harness.
  6. Disconnect injector coupler.
  7. Remove cold start injector pipe from delivery pipe.
  8. Remove vacuum hose from pressure regulator.
  9. Remove fuel feed hose from delivery pipe.
  10. Remove pressure regulator from delivery pipe.
  11. Remove delivery pipe with injectors.
  12. Remove injectors from delivery pipe. To install:
  13. Replace injector O-rings and lubricate with fuel. NOTE: Make sure injectors rotate smoothly. If not, probable cause is incorrect installation of O-ring.
  14. Check if insulator is scored or damaged. If it is, replace with new one.
  15. Connect delivery pipe with injectors.
  16. Install pressure regulator to delivery pipe using a new O-ring.
  17. Install fuel feed hose to delivery pipe.
  18. Install vacuum and fuel return hoses to pressure regulator and clamp securely.
  19. Install cold start injector pipe to delivery pipe using new gaskets.
  20. Install injector coupler. Clamp injector wiring harness.
  21. Install PCV hose to cylinder head.
  22. Install throttle position sensor coupler.
  23. Install accelerator cable and adjust free-play.
  24. Install intake air hose to throttle body and intercooler.
  25. Connect the negative battery cable.
  26. Start engine and check for leaks.

Injectors problem

Yes but first chech that there is spark at all cylinders. ( plug on the head with the wire being tested and crank) They all work good, check comprssion with the plugs out crank the engine cod and you can see the fuel vapor blow out it should appear the same on all cylinders, if in dought get out some tools ( comprssion gauge should show with wide open throttle 150 PSI and all cylinders over 100 more than 10% difference you got an engine problem don't blame injectores Ford injectors are the most relaible I I haven't had to change them, Nissan honda toyata chysler GM 3.4 and 3.1. Get out the tools again to test injectors hook up the scanners and go to injector test and follow the instructions and do as promped. or hook up a fuel pressure gauge momentarily turn on the pump ( cycle the key ) use an injector pulser to pulse the injector and write down the start and after pressures run the engine before testing the engine. if there all the same it still doesn't prove an injector that gets hot and quits Nissans do this alot, Lots of miles though. Fords are more likly to have injectors that don't fire because of wire prooblems or rarely the computer itself. If compression is low al across the timing belt could be off a tooth in time and the engine will accerate slowly and start hard harder when colder. The days of your test. Remove one injector wire one at a time with it running and see it drop of and come back on if one is not working test the wire with the car running sould have power on the one wire and a flickering ground on the other a niod light is safeest an LED test light connected to power will work no flicker on just one and it doeshave power I have seen fords do this and the wire harness has a plug for the injector harness and valve cover leaks fouled the connection till it failed or became intermitant. Always on high mileage or heavly beaten or overheated cars. Overheating and too low fuel pressure will make injectors fail Low pressure causes the pump to deadhead instead of flow and the fuel and the injector gets hotter than normal. then the winding in the injector opens or melts together shorts the injector then blows the quad driver in the computer. Some have fuses on the power side but one injector may not blow the fuse, The computer runs the ground, key on power runs the powerside though a fuse. some are hot no fuse. OHM test of the pins on the injector should show all injectors the same and 3 to 1.5 ohm. all the same is most important good ones have shown to be exactly the same. Removeing the wires only breifly to see woking or the check engine light may come on and have to be reset before the computer turns that injector back on. Check engine light on has to be tested and corected before injectors are condemended. They cost alot rebuilt ones are not likly to be very good or last very long and if the parts store says thier warehouse or manufacture order and not in stock you aren't looking for the right problem unless you get a rare problem
