Keep an eye on the leak, if it is a minor leak u can take your time about having it fixed, if it is a major leak then you can run the case dray and burn it up from lack of lube, that kind of leak needs attention now.

Take the plug out of the side of the transfer case. Fill with recommended fluid until it starts to run out of the hole. Put plug back in and tighten.
As for the drive problem. You need to take it to a transmission specialist. The dealer is a good place or you can find a reputable transmission shop in your town too.

98 f-150 4x4 ,when you turn 4x4 sw ,relay in dash clicks about 6 time ,but no 4x4 light in dash and it don't lock in

Is the system ESOF ( Electronic Shift On the Fly ) or MSOF ( Mechanical Shift On the Fly ) ? Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc ). Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft. If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case. If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

have engage motor checked may be bad, i forget the rite name for it but its located on transfer case, and it puts transfer case in the range you select, that what the problem is about 75% of the time you can test it, good luck.

4wd doesn't work on my 98 Expedition

Put it on jack stands. Start it up, put it in 4x4. Put it in drive. Both front and rear drive shafts should be spinning. Do they?

I had a similar problem, but not exactly the same. In my expedition 98 the A4WD worked, but the 4x4 hi or low did not. Ford dealership diagnosed it to be the transfer case shift motor. I bought one from ebay for $85 and replaced it myself and it works fine now. They wanted $450 to replace it.

Some say you can tap the transfer case motor with hammer, but gently and it may come to life. I didn't try that.
