Loud accelerating whining

When I accelerate the engine whines real bad sounds like a supercharger. I was told it was the alternator but I changed it and nothing changed. Sound is coming from the drivers side of the engine. Any suggestions.

I went to the mechanic and he said it was the alternator with his stethoscope and apparently he was wrong. I thought it was the power steering as well but the noise is constant not just when i turn. I know its a bad question but where is the power steering pump located on my model. The noise is definitely coming from the drivers side of the engine area.

this sounds like a noisy power steering pump. Use a a mechanics stethoscope to isolate the noise

THE FAN CLUTCH WILL MAKE A LOUD ROARING NOISE WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED AND GET LOUDER AS THE RPM IS RAISED. THERE IS A PROGRAM UPDATE THAT SOMETIMES FIXES THIS PROBLEM. IF NOT THE FAN CLUTCH WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE PROGRAM UPDATED.

I had the same exact problem. Sounded like an airplane taking off in the front. Replaced fan clutch. Now the problem I am having is same sound in the rear! Could it be the rear axle?

Power steering pump whine is common. check for fluid foaming and level.

Is this a stand still whine as you rev the engine or a whine related to vehicle speed? do you feel anything in the steering like pulling to one side or the other?

Remove the serpentine belt and eliminate all accessory pulleys from turning. If it goes away you know its something that is turning on the engine. Pop off the grease cups on the front wheels and ck for metal in the brgs.Lets do these and confer in the morning. Ned.

I have a 2001 Ford Escort ZX2 base model. Since I've owned the car, I noticed that when I accelerate, the car has a loud whine. It sounds like the car has a supercharger. Any ideas?

Hi Joshua:
I had a friend with a similar problem. It turned out to be a bearing in the alternator. He actually got to like the sound.

What will make car whine when accelerating with a 2000 cavalier

If its in your engine it may be your belt tensioner and since you are not real specific if its coming from engine compartment thes cars were notorious for having bad wheel bearings which will whine louder the faster you go.

Loud whine coming from engine

The whining sound that you here could be coming from a number of places. It may be a coincidence but I think you may be talking about the transmission's pump. You may want to buy a stethoscope. This tool, if properly and carefully used, will help pin point a mechanical noise. Other possibilities are the power steering pump, tensioner and idler bearing, A/C compressor or A/C clutch, or Alternator. I hope this helps, write back if you have any other questions, good luck.

High pitched whine while accelerating

remove the belt and start the engine ..IF THE NOISE disappear it might be idler bearings that driven by belt but if the noise still there check the pcv valve..

Engine whine

It could be any of the pulleys on the engine. Water pump, ac compressor, alternator, idler, or power steering pump. I would say that it is more than likely the power steering pump wining. That would be my first suspect

Whining noise while engine is revving/accelerating

check power steering pump fluid, with engine off try to wiggle every pulley if any move at all that's your culprit, power steering, alternator, idler puller, water pump, but sounds like bearing failure

Engine makes whining sound

Take the belt off and spin all of the pulleys. the bad component should be obvious. high pitch whine is usually alternator bearing for the 98 3800 its timkin part# 100ccab or it can be the power steering pump(but the pitch will change as your steering if it is that) water pump, idler and tensioner pulleys(if you have to change either one, replace the tensioner itself). if you have the supercharged model there are a few parts that can whine( or the s/c is low on oil.)

High Pitch whine during acceleration

well it could be a few things but most likely you belt is sliping. That is very common and happens to all cars over the years if the belt is not changed. You should check it out. The belt could be bad but it could also be a bad pully. If you dont know what these parts are look them up on google. its very simple
