SOUND LIKE A DEAD BATTERY BUT CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 12.6 VOLTS.IF NOT BATTERY DEAD NEED TO BE CHECK AND REPLACE.MAKE SURE BATTERY CABLES TIGHT AND BATTERY CABLES AND BATTERY POST CLEAN FREE FROM CORROSSION.AFTER REPLACING BATTERY MAKE SURE ALTERNATOR IS CHARGING BATTERY. WITH ENGINE IDLING BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD READ 13.5 - 14.5 VOLTS. MEANS ALTERNATOR IS CHARGING BATTERY. IF NOT CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE AND CHECK ALTERNATOR BATTERY FEED WIRE AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES, MAKE SURE WIRES NOT FRAYED OR BROKEN. IF ALL IS GOOD MAKE SURE ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT TENSION CORRECT.MAKE DRIVE BELT TENSIONER NOT BROKEN OR DAMAGE CAUSING DRIVE BELT TO SLIP OR CHECK ALTERNATOR CHECK ALTERNATOR PIVOT BOLT MAKE SURE NOT LOOSEN CAUSING TOO MUCH SLACK IN DRIVE BELT CAUSING BELT TO SLIP.WARNING TURN OFF RADIO FIRST BEFORE REMOVING BATTERY CABLES TO REPLACE THE BATTERY BECAUSE IF RADIO WAS LEFT ON WHILE BATTERY WAS DEAD WHEN YOU INSTALL BATTERY CABLES THE POWER SURGE WILL DAMAGE RADIO.

How do you loosen belt to change alternator.

You need a belt tensioner tool, it's a long flat bar with a 3/8" square drive on the end. Most auto parts stores will have one to borrow.

Insert the tool into the belt tensioner and rotate this will loosen the belt for removal.

Make sure you disconnect the + battery cable before you start working on the alternator.

How do ichange the belts in my 1993 plymouth sundance is there a tension to loosen

Actually yes, there is a tension pulley that is spring loaded. You have to put a wrench on it and release the tension to change the main belt. The belt for the Alternator has an adjustment that is loosened and tighten with a socket. This one is usually located on the Alternator bracket.

How do I remove the alternator from my 2000. And what tools do I

First, you have to disconnect the battery cables. Locate the alternator. Loosen the tensioner,or the actual alternator might be the only accessory needed
to be loosened to remove the belt.Remove the alternator, and the wiring going to it.Make sure to
make a diagram,of where the wires go,so when you got to attatch them to the new unit, there will be no
issues.Reassemble as removed.Make sure the belt
is properly tensioned when reinstalling the new alternator. Good luck.

I need step by step altenator change instructions.i have a 1990 accord lx 4 door.

Before you do anything else, take careful note of the drive belt tension because you are going to have to adjust the belt back to that approximate tension when you replace the alternator.
Next, detach the negative battery terminal (if you have an anti-theft radio, make sure you have the activation code because when you hook the battery back up your radio will just say “code” and wait for you to put in the five-digit code. You should have gotten it with but not in the manual).
Important: mark and detach the electrical connector and any ground straps from the alternator.
Loosen the alternator pivot bolt (the one that the alternator pivots on as it is tightened against the drive belt).
Loosen the adjusting bolt (the one that tightens the alternator against the drive belt).
Remove the adjusting bolt and the pivot bolt, then detach the drive belt (push it off the pulley when you can move the alternator).
Important note: you will have to remove the bracket bolt located next to the adjustment bolt and the mounting bolt located lower and at a 90 degree angle, in order to remove the adjustment bolt and assembly.
Installation is the reverse, but if you are replacing the alternator, make sure the one you get has a pulley on it (or take the one you have the have the seller switch them), and make sure you get the same one (size and terminal location) that you have.
Hope this helps you.
