Hello There

Your transmission fluid needs changing. There are two bolts on the transmission one directly underneath the trans for draining and aother one on the side for refilling the fluid, the one on the side is also used to top up the fluid.

If you haven't changed the fluid in a while then it's best to get it changed.

Hope this helps. Please don't forget to rate me.

Many Thanks

Check to see if the trans codes match from the VIN or the Ford manufactures plate on the drivers side door jam on both trucks.

Having problems with the clutch in my 1998 Ford Ranger. There is no freeplay, and it is very difficult to shift. Do I need to adjust the clutch? If so, how do I adjust it?

The clutch is not adjustable,it is a fluid clutch. It has to be a leak,or the slave cylinder, and,or, the master cylinder are bad,It does not have to be leaking to be bad,but it is one of the two.Rate please, thank you.

Reverse lights will not work and I have replaced the bulbs and the fuse

There is a switch that controls the Neutral Safety Switch, and the Back-Up lights with the automatic transmission.

Manual trans usually have a single switch mounted where the shift rail inside the trans causes a switch to turn on the Back-up lights when you shift into reverse. Just a Back-up switch @ 15.00 + Ship on eBay for this type.

good luck

I have a 97 f-250 7.3 with a manual trans. and it wants to jump out of reverse if I dont go to 1st gear and then to rev. first.

Sounds like the shift lever is not coming completely out of 2nd gear. So, by shifting into 1st gear, you recenter the shift lever. You can confirm this by going under the truck and moving the 1st - 2nd lever on the side of the transmission with your hand. If the shifter goes into reverse after you manually recenter the 1-2 lever, then you need to correct the problem that prevents the "normal" recentering of the 1-2 shift lever.

Possibilities are: Bent shift rod; worn shifter; worn shift rod at connection to shift lever on transmission.

2005 ford ranger 6 cyl auto trans - how to drain

I would pickup a plastic manual pump syphon hose, insert it in the transmission fill tube and pump out the appropriate amount. You should be able to buy on cheaply at most auto parts or home improvement stores.

Manual transmission light flickers off and on-car won't go over40

Is the car a manual or automatic, 4 or 6 cyl? If it is a manual trans the hard shift could be due to worn shift forks which were rather common in these cars, had them go out in my 90 GT a few years ago. Could also be low on lube or the wrong lube. To check the lube on a manual trans car remove the speedometer drive which is on the top of the trans. The fluid should be at the bottom of the gear on the drive. The proper fluid is ATF not heavy gear oil that ends up getting put in. Hope this helps
