Question about 1989 Subaru Justy

Won't start turns over but thats it

I have an 89 automatic 3 cylinder subaru justy that won't start engine turns over just recently changed the sparks and wires also the distributor cap and roter. Could it be the fuel pump needs replacing? desperate

    No but you can see the spark plug sparks

My problem was a blown fuse under the hood. Check that first!

If you can't hear the fuel pump when you first turn the key to "on", then it's not working. ANd if you have spark, then your problem is gas. Change fuel pump.

What are the suggested settings for the fuel air ratio screw and idle screw on a 1989 Subaru justy? And how do I go about getting it tuned to those settings, Do I start with them screwed all the way in and...


A standard rule of thumb for fuel mixture screws on most carburators is turn them in all of the way so they seat so don't over tighten them . Then turn them out 2 full turns then start the engine . Then keep turning out 1/8 th of a turn evenly until the engine reaches a speed over idle about 1000 RPMS . With the engine still running start turning them in slowly and evenly . The engine should slow down to idle at about 2 and a half to 2 and a quarter turns from the stop pisition . So when it starts to stumbly a bit its a little to lean so turn it out an 1/8 of a turn or so just do it evenly and you will be vary close to the setting keep in mind the setting will vary depending the ware inside the engine . The idle is a differant story depending on what you have for a control system . Some have a stepper motor that controls the idle and adjusting is limited to the stop screw and the adjustment on the motor . Look where the throttle cable attaches to the carbutator make sure your throttle plates can close all of the way this is not the plate on the top its the ones below it the ones that the adjustment screws for the mixture move when you adjust them in or out. The vehicle should if standard idle about 650 RPMS if automatic around 800 RPMS + or -50 or so RPMS . But it sounds more like you need to rebuild the carburator . you can get a kit for about 30 of 40 bucks and it comes with instructions and all new parts you will need . Just get a can of carb cleaner with the little red tube and spray it into all of the passages and ventures clean every thing and it should work like brand new . Its not that hard to do just follow the derections and don't loose any of the parts there kind of small

89 subra justy wont start put in new distribter still wont star fire at coil but not at plugs


hi have you tried the crank or cam sensors as this would cause a similar problem if faulty

Cylinder 1 and 3 flooding, not starting


Had this problem with 1991 justy, 2 bbl carb, manual transmission. was getting good spark on the plugs, removed air cleaner, dirty around the carb and inside had varnish build. sprayed a lot around and inside the carb with cleaner, also replaced the plugs. started up after a few cranks. hope this helps

I am trying to locate my fuel filter in my 1989 Subaru Justy ECVT


The fuel filter should be in the front, engine compartment on the driver's side.

Have a no start on 89 subaru justy replaced igntion ciol and pick up coil still no spark


the most likely cause would have been the igniter (ignition module)

Car engine fails to start at times.


If the starter turns, i would presume that there is a problem with your ignition switch.

cmp sensor(camshaft position sensor)check the wiring harness first.to see if its loose if not then it needs replaced thats what trouble code 13 list.
