Check it in Park and Neutral position. Put a test light on small wire at the starter and see if it lights when the key is turned to start. If no light, the wire is burned. (fusible link) test further up the wire until it lights to verify

SOURCE: New starter or Manual Positioning lever shifter?

I think the starter is not the problem, if it were a starter issue it would make a click, and while I am on the subject of the starter, whoever told you it takes 4.5 flat rate hours to change your starter is just plain ignorant, $1000.00?? hum I think I would find another shop, I checked the price of a rebuilt starter, AC Delco is $156.00.
Back to the issue of no start, you are right the problem is most likely the neutral safety switch, they are about $40.00 at Rockauto.com, ACDELCO Part # D2263C

Try another starter and also try turning the crank bolt with a ratchet and socket to make sure that the crank isn't frozen in place. Do not leave the keys in the car when doing so. You don't want anyone messing around in the truck when trying that!

The starter won't crank. If nothing happens when you turn the ignition key to the "Start" position, it means that the starter motor doesn't turn over the engine. Most commonly this could be caused by a dead battery; here is How to check the battery. ... The starter motor itself or a starter solenoid could be bad.13 Aug 2013

Well, if your starter starts to turn when you hook the battery cable up, then you have hooked the cable to the wrong post on the starter. You have two large posts and one small post on the starter solenoid, the battery cable goes on the large post that has nothing else hooked to it. The other large post should have a large braided cable going into the starter motor housing. If the starter still will not turn the engine over when it is wired correctly then you will need to look closer at the flywheel ring gear.

Van will not start.... there is no noise or clicking, just wont start can this be a starter problem?

-First Check battery (Is it full? ) and tight all connector.
-Check all Fuses. (If blow out/ Replace new one)
-try to start now.
Q: still do nothing?
A: Yes.
- Next check the small wire that connect to the starter solenoid.
Not the big one from the battery!
Is it connect there...?
A: Yes.
-Okay disconnect it and hook up a volt meter to the wire and ask some one to help you turn the key to start and hold at start position. It should have 12 volts there.
Q: Any voltage there...?
A: Yes
-Need new starter.
A: No. no voltage at all.
-Possibly the wire is open some where between the end to the ignition key.

STARTER WON'T STOP

If its a new starter check and see that the wires are hooked up right, could be time for a new starter, or starter relay on the fender well, or the ignition switch is bad.

Put in a new starter and hook everything back and now it wouldn't started or even not crank over at all, there power from the batterie to the starter, and still nothing

Either the starter is bad or the small wires aren't hooked up or hooked up right. You must be getting power to the small stud on the starter with the "S" next to it when the key is in the start position. Also, try holding the key in the start position and move the gear shifter slowly from "P" to "1" and jiggle it in "P" and "N."

CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR POWER TO GAUGES TO SEE IF THEY WORK WHILE IGNITION IS IN THE ON POSITION.IF NO CHECK THE 40 AMP IGNITION FUSE.IF FUSE GOOD IGNITION SWITCH IS BAD OR HAS A LOOSE OR BROKEN WIRE.IF FUSE GOOD ALL GAUGES IS WORKING.I BE LOOKING AT STARTER AND STARTER SOLENOID.REMOVE THEM HAVE AUTO ZONE TEST STARTER.OR YOU CAN GET A REMOTE STARTER SWITCH AND SET OF BATTERY CABLES.HOOK BATTERY CABLES TO A BATTERY.WITH STARTER OUT OF CAR TAKE BATTERY CABLES HOOK NEGATIVE BATTERY TO STARTER BODY FOR GOOD GROUND.TAKE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE HOOK TO STARTER POSITIVE TERMINAL WHERE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE GOES.THEN HOOK THE REMOTE SWITCH RED WIRE TO STARTER POSITIVE TERMINAL AND THE OTHER REMOTE SWITCH WIRE TO THE S OR SWITCH TERMINAL ON STARTER SOLENOID.PRESS THE REMOTE SWITCH IS STARTER RUNS GOOD WITH NO FUNNY NOISES ITS GOOD IF STARTER DONT RUN THE STARTER SOLENOID OR STARTER IS BAD. THE PROBLEMS IN YOUR CAR COULD BE A BAD KEY TRY ANOTHER KEY YOUR CAR HAS THE THEFT DETERRENT MODULE SYSTEM BEST TO HAVE CAR SCAN TO CHECK THE THEFT SECURITY MODULE AND THE TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH IF ITS BAD STARTER WONT WORK.ALSO CHECK THE THEFT DETERRENT MODULE RELAY. BEFORE REMOVING BATTERY CABLES TURN OFF RADIO SO YOU WONT LOSE YOUR RADIO PLAYING CODE.

My car just stop starting,i will jump it,by morning it is dead,i replaced battery and alltenatior, what could it be? check engine light isnt on

there is a drain in the system,
all you need is a test light
un hook the positive battery cable
connect the test light between the positive lead and the battery terminal
if there is a drain the light will lit
remove each fuse at a time ( put it back if the light does not go out )
which ever fuse that you remove and make the light goes out, that's the one that cause the drain.
check and fix that system

most likley the positive wire has corroded off the starter. look at the small red wire more closely, if theres alot of corosion, replace the wire (and starter if needed) if you dont see much corrosion give the wire a good tug just to see if it really is hooked up well. you should disconnect the batt. before doing any of this.hope this helps and good luck

Won't start getting nothing when i turn key

Recheck all your connections, battery. starter, look for fuseable link on small wire going to starter. Might want to chk.that wire with test light when key switch is in start position and see if it lights. If it does not light might be starter switch under dash on steering colume.
