Brake line behind fuel tank leaking

I have a 1989 Ford Ranger 4 Cylinder the brake line is leaking behind the fuel tank

I belive it is a plastic line is their an easy way to fix it not having to remove the fuel tank

Andreas I also have a 1989 Ford Ranger with a 2.3L that is leaking brake fluid from this area. I plan on working on it this weekend but I did not plan on removing the fuel tank. This would be a major problem because of the rusted tank straps. I will probably replace the length of steel break line that I assume goes from the rear anti lock brake module to the flexible hose that goes from the frame to the rear axil. Wish me luck because I don't have a lot of money and hope the Michigan rusted parts will come loose.

You can just feed a new line over the tank and try to clip it onto the existing one. Best of luck, hope the job goes ok.

I don't have a diagram for you,but the plastic tank holds on the pump by the lines,behind the tank is a large O-ring,try tightening the lines a little but gentle.Typical Ford power steering issue besides the steering box leaking

Where does a evap sensor go in a 1996 ranger pickup


I'm not an expert and I have a similar problem on the 1996 Mazda extended PU w/2300 four cylinder. Same vehicle, made in ranger plant in NJ.

On the four, the purge solenoid and the purge flow sensor are located just aft (towards driver) of the battery on a vac line between the canister (next to the battery) and the intake (Just forward of the brake master cylinder.

QUESTION: Is there a pressure sensor in the fuel tank of this vehicle??????

My 1986 ford bronco 2 with a 2.9l v6 needed a brake master cylinder. i replaced it with a brand new one, and noticed that the base of the master cylinder, where it mounts to the brake booster, is leaking a...


You should not have any fluid leaking.
1.The new master cylinder may have been manufacturer incorrectly, but unlikely. 2.Did you reuse the fluid tank or did it come with a new one? If you re-installed old tank, seal may have not seated correctly. 3. Did you tighten the brake lines correctly? 4. It may be that there was fluid that leaking into the booster from the old cylinder, and that fluid is now coming out of the booster with use. One indication would be if the reservoir tank is showing any fluid drop. If it is the problem is 1,2, or 3 above. Let me know what you find out by leaving a comment.

clogged brake line @ master cylinder or bad master cylinder, when holding pressure on pedal does the pedal leak down? if so bad master cylinder. hope this helps!!!

I need to add brake fluid - where is the brake fluid reservoir on a 1988 ford ranger?


It will be under the hood, on the driver's side, mounted on the brake booster, mounted on firewall. The master cylinder is usually silver with a plastic reservoir on top with a black plasic cap, there should be 4 steel lines coming out of it. Remove the cap and fill up to the "FULL" level on the reservoir.

I have a 1989 ford f 150 the rear brake line is rotted off from the drivers door back. i can t seem to find where it goes


the brake line goes from the rabs valve to a rubber hose near the rear end. It is ran behind the fuel tank.

If the line leaking is plastic then it's not a brake line it's a fuel line. If the truck runs then it is most likely the return fuel line. If you can't get to it without dropping the tank then that's what you'll have to do, but you shouldn't need to remove it completely.
It is best to siphon out as much gas as possible. Before you removing the bolts take 2 pcs. of smooth fence wire or even 12ga. copper wire and make a cradle to support the tank, cut the wire at least 2 ft. longer than what it will take to go from the frame to the drive-shaft.
At a point about 1/3 in from each end of the tank lupe one end of the wire through holes in the frame and twist it a couple of times, then run it under the tank and around the drive shaft and twisting the ends a couple of turns.
After you get all the bolts out of the tank supports if you don't have room to repair the line you can loosen the wires around the drive-shaft and allow the tank to drop down some[this is why you need the wires 2 ft. longer]
After the repairs which will probably be replacing the rubber fuel hose that attaches the line to the tank,[I'd replace both of them] tighten the wires around the drive-shaft and replace the tank bolts. Remember to get all your bolts started before you tighten any,

no it doesn't come filled basically you bleed it like a brake system. Fill the master cylinder and pump the clutch, there is a bleeder on the slave cylinder
